RIDE HARD - RWB Teaser 1Brotherhood. Club. Family.

They live and ride by their own rules.

These are the Raven Riders…

Raven Riders Motorcycle Club President Dare Kenyon rides hard and values loyalty above all else. He’ll do anything to protect the brotherhood of bikers—the only family he’s got—as well as those who can’t defend themselves. So when mistrustful Haven Randall lands on the club’s doorstep scared that she’s being hunted, Dare takes her in, swears to keep her safe, and pushes to learn the secrets overshadowing her pretty smile.

Haven fled from years of abuse at the hands of her criminal father and is suspicious of any man’s promises, including those of the darkly sexy and overwhelmingly intense Ravens’ leader. But as the powerful attraction between them flares to life, Dare pushes her boundaries and tempts her to want things she never thought she could.

The past never dies without a fight, but Dare Kenyon’s never backed down before…

Don’t forget you can grab HARD AS STEEL, a Hard Ink/Raven Riders Crossover Novella out now and pre-order RIDE ROUGH, book 2 in the Raven Riders Series (out April 25, 2017)!

I’m thrilled to be celebrating the release of my 25th novel, Ride Hard, the first book in my Raven Riders Motorcycle Club series about a new kind of MC with a protective mission. You might’ve first met the Ravens in the Hard Ink world, but this series stands on its own and is even sexier, edgier, and grittier! I can’t wait for you to get to know Dare, Haven, and everyone in the Raven world! And see down below for a giveaway and a bonus story offer!

One of the things that surprised me about Ride Hard was that food became a major theme throughout the book. Haven suffers from insomnia and baking is one of the things that calms and distracts her, so sometimes she sneaks down to the clubhouse’s kitchen in the middle of the night and bakes whatever sweet thing comes to mind. Cinnamon rolls and peanut butter cookies are two of her favorites (and Dare’s, too!), and she loves leaving these treats for the guys in the club to devour in the morning. Because you might find yourself hungry while reading *winks*, I thought you might enjoy Haven’s recipe for cinnamon rolls—and since I am not much of a cook LOL, I turned to my good friend and fellow author Christi Barth, who is an excellent cook, for her take on cinnamon rolls, very similar to what I describe in the book:

Haven’s Cinnamon Rolls

What makes these cinnamon rolls super easy is that they have to sit overnight – which means you don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn to start cooking for a crowd of hungry bikers.

1 package quick rise yeast

1 teaspoon sugar

1/4 cup warm water

4 cups flour

1/4 cup sugar

1 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon cloves

1/2 teaspoon salt

8 ounces evaporated milk (I like to use evaporated skim milk – it won’t change the texture or flavor, just the guilt you feel for eating a second roll)

1/4 cup water

1 egg

1/4 cup softened butter

1 cup dark brown sugar

1 tablespoon orange zest

1 tablespoon cinnamon

1 1/3 cups powdered sugar

2 tablespoons milk

RH Cinnamon RollsDissolve yeast, 1 teaspoon sugar & the warm water in a bowl and let stand for five minutes or until small bubbles foam on the top of it. In a large bowl, blend flour, 1/4 cup sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and salt. In another bowl combine 2/3 cup milk, water and egg. Once thoroughly mixed, add yeast and flour mixture (1 cup at a time) into it until it forms a dough ball.

Lightly flour your counter, and then knead dough on it for about 6 minutes. Coat a bowl with non-stick spray, put dough in it and cover. Let dough rise until doubled (at least an hour).

Roll dough out to an approximate 10″ x 20″ rectangle. Gently spread the butter over the dough, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. If you like nuts, you could add 3/4 cup chopped pecans. Roll up, starting with the long side. Slice roll (a bread knife works best) into 12 1″ thick pieces. Put in two buttered cake pans, with 1 slice in the middle and 5 ringing it. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in the refrigerator at least overnight, but up to an entire day ahead. Bake at 375 degrees for 24 minutes.

Whisk together powdered sugar and milk with a fork. Drizzle over rolls while still hot.

Who can say yum????? Enjoy!

Thanks for reading!

“Ride. Fight. Defend.”

Thirty-eight year old Dare Kenyon, Raven Riders Motorcycle Club president, is a loner. Driven by a past that haunts him, Dare pours all his energy into ensuring that the Raven Riders MC stays a brotherhood of bikers dedicated to helping those in need.  Providing shelter, security and a sense of family to victims of abuse, Dare is committed to their defense and protection.

Haven Randall, twenty-two, had been her abusive father’s virtual prisoner for eight years. Kept under an increasingly tight guard, Haven’s contact with society had been diminished to the point that she was only allowed to venture out into public in the company of her father’s bodyguards. When Haven, along with her friend, Cora, finally make a break for freedom, fate places them (through a series of harrowing acts) in the middle of a gang war. Found being held hostage, both Haven and Cora are given safe harbor at the Raven Riders’ compound. It’s there that Haven encounters Dare Kenyon.

Dare is instantly attracted to Haven — he’s an alpha male and his need to protect her is constantly at war with his desire for her. Haven feels the pull towards Dare, but she (justifiably) has trust issues. Dare makes his case:

“I need you to try to judge me on my actions and my words, not on the actions and words of the people who came before me in your life.”

Kindle Loc. 308 0f 5558

It’s a bit of a slow burn before these two get together, but absolutely worth the wait. (Keep a fire extinguisher handy.)

Ride Hard is the first novel in author Laure Kaye’s new Raven Riders Series.  Born out of her highly successful Hard Ink Series, the reader is introduced to a new family of rugged and tender characters, along with a few cameos from those sizzling hot guys from Hard Ink. (Swoon, swoon and more swoon.)

Fans of Laura Kaye, such as this reader, know that her characters are fully fleshed out — distinct and well crafted, and this continues to hold true in Ride Hard. Dare Kenyon is a very sympathetic character — a tough alpha male with his heart in the right place. Haven (so aptly named) Randall is written as a fragile young woman. Kaye’s characterization of her as a terrified soul who learns to trust herself and act upon her own sense of judgment is spot on. The ancillary characters are solid, and we look forward to hearing their stories as the Raven Riders Series continues. The plot is fairly predictable, but in the hands of author Kaye, it never bores. Her storytelling grabs the reader. In one memorable and symbolic scene, Dare takes Haven out for a ride on his bike. Haven, helmeted, hangs onto Dare for dear life as he, helmetless and with hair flying, races freely through the countryside. So well written, even this reader could feel the wind in her face.

Introduce yourself to the Raven Riders in Laura Kaye’s Ride Hard and feel the exhilaration of two hearts joining together on a ride through life. Well done, Laura Kaye!

The Sapphire Affair - coverBounty hunter Jake Harlowe knows how to track a criminal. So when a group of swindled shareholders hires him to trail their former CEO, Jake expects a quick trip to the Cayman Islands to close another case. Until a devastatingly beautiful woman gets in the way.

Steph Anderson is visiting the Caymans for a rock climbing and dive trip—or so she tells Jake. She’s really trying to find out whether or not her stepfather embezzled money from his company. The last thing Steph needs is the distraction of a sexy, charming man whose kisses drive her wild.

Soon, the pair discover they’re after the same target—and millions in jewels. While Jake can’t be certain Steph isn’t working for her stepfather, and Steph can’t be certain Jake isn’t after the diamonds for himself, they can agree the heat between them is intense, and neither can deny the passion for long.

But the morning after, Steph discovers that she just might have slept with the enemy, and now she’ll have to outwit him to get everything she needs

He’d have to get to the bottom of this on his own, and figure out if he was being played by the woman with the starfish belly ring. He wasn’t going to let last night’s kiss cloud his focus. He wasn’t going to let that blue bikini that hugged her hips, and had the good fortune to snuggle up to her breasts, distract him. Absolutely not.

“I’m glad you made it. I thought you’d get a kick out of Happy Turtle Cove, since you named me Happy Turtle,” she said, then dropped her voice to a faux whisper. “But it’s really a cove for turtles. I was just swimming with them.”

Stop. Just stop.

Swimming with turtles was too adorable. Especially when her nose crinkled. A constellation of freckles was splashed across her nose. He hadn’t noticed them yesterday. Briefly, he wondered where else she might be hiding freckles that he’d uncover on a proper and thorough investigation of her fantastic body. Preferably with his tongue, across every inch of her skin. “You were actually swimming with turtles?”

She tapped the mesh bag on her shoulder. “My snorkel gear is in here.” She gestured to her body. “Sorry, I’m still in my bathing suit. I’ll put on a sundress as soon as this is dry.”

“Or just remove the bikini entirely so it’ll dry faster. It’s not ever necessary to put on a dress on my account. I’m completely OK with the bikini as a sole item of clothing on a woman like you,” he said, then nearly smacked himself. He had to stop thinking with his dick. He had to use that head on his goddamn shoulders.

Cover up that body. Put a paper bag over your face. Stop being so damn sexy and sweet. Stop making me think about taking you back to my hotel room and peeling off that bikini and tasting how sweet your sun-kissed skin is.

“I’m glad to know that both nudity and skimpy bathing suits have your sartorial approval. But I actually hope to look somewhat decent when you take me to the Coconut Iguana. My friend Sandy runs it.”

He arched an eyebrow in question.

She tapped her wrist, even though it was bare. She didn’t strike him as a watch wearer. “Lunch time. I’m hungry. So I decided to let you take me out to lunch as a reward for your showing up and following my napkin instructions. Plus, they have the best fish tacos on the Islands, and absolutely amazing coconut drinks,” she said, stepping closer and bumping her hip against him.

A groan rumbled in his chest. Why was the universe torturing him?

He forced his brain to take over. To focus on facts, not lust. Because it made no sense why she’d be hungry, since he’d seen her at a restaurant two hours ago, and she didn’t look like she noshed around the clock. This was another sign that she might be working for the enemy.

“I’m hungry, too. Let’s head to the Coconut Iguana.” He held out a hand, telling himself that lunch was the perfect opportunity to get to the heart of who this woman was. Since she knew Eli, she might be a valuable asset. And if this woman was playing him, he could play her.

Release Day: Possess by Kaye Blue

possess - release day.jpg

PossessCover-750.jpgNo weakness.

Maxim has stayed alive—and on top—for twenty years through a ruthless combination of brains and brutality. He’s grown the Syndicate into one of the world’s most powerful criminal enterprises.

He cares for no one.

Except her.

The woman he never should have saved…the one who holds the remnants of his long-dead heart.

No limits.

Senna doesn’t know why Maxim spared her all those years ago, or why he’s kept her by his side. But she does know that nothing—not his beautiful cruelty, not the black void where his heart should be—can stop her from loving him. Wanting him.

Even though she shouldn’t.

No turning back.

Years of obsession sharpen to a knife’s edge when Senna begins to crave her freedom. And when an old rival discovers her existence, Maxim must fight to keep her alive, even as he battles his need to possess her completely…no matter the cost.

“Your visitor? Was that business?” I said, voice low, tight with anger I tried not to show him, hurt I’d sworn I would never show him. That anger, that jealously was mine to carry, and my pride stung at the idea of Maxim knowing about it. But despite my best efforts, my emotion was apparent.

To the undiscerning eye, it would have looked like Maxim had no reaction to my question. But my eye was discerning, and I had spent a great deal of my life studying him. So I saw the change, the slight flare of his nostrils, the way he momentarily thinned his lips, the way his jaw ticked. Only once, but once was enough. He was irritated. At my question or the emotion with which I’d asked it, I wasn’t sure.

“Asking questions about my business, Senna?” he said after he’d regained his composure.

I, however, had not regained mine.

“Is that what you call it?” I said, feeling reckless now as my gaze locked with his.

“Something on your mind, Senna?” he asked, his voice dripping with menace and warning.

I didn’t care.

“I know what you do with them,” I said.

“You know what I do with them?” he said, mimicking my words, giving me an opportunity to walk them back, an opportunity to let this go.

No chance that was happening now. I nodded, anger that had exploded full force making it impossible for me to stay quiet.

“Yeah. I do,” I said.

To my own ears my voice sounded malignant with anger, anger that was unjustified, indefensible, and more intense than almost any had ever felt.

“Tell me, Senna. What do I do with them?” he said, his eyes narrowing slightly for less than a split second, but his face almost instantly returning to its falsely placid default expression.

I narrowed my eyes at him, saw the slightest change in his expression. I had his complete attention now, and I could see he was curious as to how this would play out.

That was Maxim, always curious, always wondering, but rarely—never—giving anything away. That enraged me further. Why was I at the mercy of emotions I shouldn’t even feel while he got to stay distant, detached?

On any other day I would have tried to excuse my behavior, tried to smooth my momentarily lapse over and go back to pretending.

Today wasn’t any other day.

I couldn’t say why, and I had no clue what the consequences might be, but I was feeling brave, stupid with my anger. So I didn’t walk the words back, didn’t try to smooth them over.

I answered.

“She was one of your whores. You fuck them,” I said, proud when my voice barely cracked over the word “fuck.”

Maxim glared at me, his icy stare enough to make anyone cower. I was in no mood to cower, and for once, I didn’t care about his displeasure. He waited, no doubt expecting me to apologize for my language.

He’d be waiting for a very long time.

“I fuck them?” he finally said, his voice deep with his displeasure, his eyes dark with the same.

I nodded, not in any mood to speak.

“How do you know?” he asked, his eyes darkening further, his expression dropping into a foreboding frown.

I swallowed, frowned, and then, finally, spoke. “I saw you once.”

He leaned forward, the curiosity overtaking his anger. “What you see?” he asked.

I tilted my head toward his desk. “She was there, in front of you. On her knees.”

The words came out jerky with anger I wanted him to see, desire I didn’t.

“And you stayed? Watched?” he said.

I nodded, watching his expression for some sign of a change. I saw it too, a slight deepening of his eyes unlike any I’d seen before.

“What did you think when you saw that, Senna?” he asked, his voice grating out of his throat roughly.

I locked eyes with his, watched the darkness there get deeper, and decided in that moment to tell him the truth, consequences be damned.

“I wished I was her.”

Release Day Blitz and Review: Noah by Cara Dee

51gg7n93gbL._SX321_BO1,204,203,200_Have you ever woken up and expected to see destruction everywhere?

In 48 hours, I lost everything. I came home to find my girlfriend of four years with another man. The next day a plane crash ripped my family away from me, shattering me in the process. In many ways, I died that day, too. The fun-loving man who’d lived in the fast lane and loved his career in the film industry was gone. Left was a forty-year-old shell that dwelled at the bottom of a bottle.

Only one person knew what I was going through. My sister’s stepson, who hadn’t been on the plane. Julian knew what it was like to lose everyone he loved, too. He’d stopped showing up at reunions when he was a teenager, so I didn’t know him very well. But I told him at the memorial service he could come out and visit me in LA whenever. One day he did, and I guessed it was as good a day as any to start picking up the pieces and see what was left of us.

“ . . . Does love conquer all?” . . . “No,” he answered . . . “but I believe it gives us what we need in order to fight.”

– Julian Hartley

Kindle Loc. 3309 of 3584

By the age of forty, Noah Collins seemed to have it all — looks, success, the love of family, the love of a woman. But life is fragile and the truth is not always what it seems. Within a matter of days, Noah suffers stunning betrayal: he discovers his longtime girlfriend, Emma, in the act with another man. Reeling from this discovery, Noah is then hit with the staggering loss of his entire family in an airplane crash. Seeming alone in his grief, Noah comes to the realization he’s not the only one devastated by the loss of his family. He reaches out to the one surviving person distantly related to him — his sister’s step-son, Julian.

Julian Hartley, twenty-three, is in his family’s home in Berlin when he receives word of the plane crash. Distraught and fragile, Julian attends the memorial service in Pittsburgh, and it is there that Noah offers Julian his support. Recognizing that he may be the only family that remains for the young man, Noah extends Julian an open invitation to come and live with him in Los Angeles.  It’s a sincere offer made by Noah, who considers himself to be a poor excuse for a half-uncle. So when Julian shows up at Noah’s door, looking for shelter and the chance for a fresh start, Noah welcomes him into his life. Noah needs a fresh start, too.

Grieving their shared loss, both Julian and Noah find comfort in one another — the simple act of holding each other gives them relief from their emotional pain. It’s gentle, beautiful and healing. When Noah begins to realize his feelings for Julian are beyond familial in nature, he’s horrified at his thoughts. It’s not the idea he finds himself attracted to a man — Noah is a person who puts gender aside — it’s the thought that he may be preying on someone who looks upon him as family. Julian thinks of Noah as family, doesn’t he?

Given this scenario, the reader might think that Cara Dee’s Noah is about breaking taboos and predatory behavior. Disabuse yourself of any notions in that regard, because Noah is at its core a beautiful and emotionally charged love story.

Set in the entertainment industry and populated with the characters we first met in author Dee’s Breaking Free, Noah and Julian find themselves deeply attracted to one another. Written entirely from Noah’s POV, the reader struggles along with Noah as he tries to wrap his mind around a relationship with the much-younger man. Credit Cara Dee with writing a character who is oblivious to gender when it comes to need, whether it be sexual or regarding matters of the heart. Her characterization of Noah’s sexual fluidity is flawless and absolutely masterful.  Julian has been attracted to Noah for years, so when Noah finally gives in to his desire for Julian, they combust into some of the most torrid sex this reader has encountered. Again, give credit to author Cara Dee — the passion between these two, while raw and demanding, is fueled by the underlying deep emotion Noah and Julian have for one another.

Noah is unequivocally Cara Dee’s best work to date.  The development of the main characters are well crafted, and their growth throughout the story is another testament to the talent of this author. The plot moves quickly, and the sub-plots are woven into the story seamlessly. On particular sub-plot, highlighting the making of a movie whose main character suffers from a mental illness, is especially poignant and is written with great care and compassion.

The ancillary characters are solidly written, and, as noted above, old friends to those who have read author Dee’s Breaking Free or With Brave Wings.  But note: one does not need to have read Breaking Free or With Brave Wings to fully enjoy Noah — it is a standalone novel, complete with epilogue.

Brilliantly written, Cara Dee’s Noah is a compelling, romantic love story — a reminder to us all that love, as Julian stated, gives us what we need in order to fight.

Note: Noah contains explicit sexual M/M scenes, as well as a sexual relationship between two members of a blended family that are not blood relations.

There aren’t many things better than picking up my Kindle and getting completely sucked into a whole new world—where words morph into images and characters’ moods suddenly reflect my own. Aside from good plot and writing, for me, it boils XnM0mwWT_400x400down to relatable characters.

As a writer, I’m not finished until the men and women in my books come to life, until I can see them as real people, until I can connect with them. Which means I write what I want to read: everyday heroes and heroines who have the same struggles we all do. They evolve, have flaws, make mistakes and amends, learn, and find the endings they fight for.

Those are the characters who take the readers on a journey away from work, laundry, grocery shopping, and to-do lists.

When I’m not writing, researching, or brainstorming, I’m either planning my next trip (never-ending bucket list!), reading, watching hockey, or spending time with family and friends.

1001 Dark Nights Presents: Release Day Launch and Review: Z by Larissa Ione

Z - RDL banner

Z is the latest in Larissa Ione’s incredible Demonica Underworld Series brought to you by the amazing team at 1001 Dark Nights! Be sure you grab your copy of this sexy new novella toady!

Z- coverZhubaal, fallen angel assistant to the Grim Reaper, has spent decades searching for the angel he loved and lost nearly a century ago. Not even her death can keep him from trying to find her, not when he knows she’s been given a second chance at life in a new body. But as time passes, he’s losing hope, and he wonders how much longer he can hold to the oath he swore to her so long ago…

As an emim, the wingless offspring of two fallen angels, Vex has always felt like a second-class citizen. But if she manages to secure a deal with the Grim Reaper — by any means necessary — she will have earned her place in the world. The only obstacle in the way of her plan is a sexy hardass called Z, who seems determined to thwart her at every turn. Soon it becomes clear that they have a powerful connection rooted in the past…but can any vow stand the test of time?

Z- RDL Teaser 2

Inside Sheoul, the demon realm sometimes called Hell, evil was everywhere.

It dripped off the sides of the sheer rock walls in streaks of black acid that ate into the stone with a hiss. It wafted through the humid air on tendrils of mist that reeked of sulfur and decaying flesh. And, as Vex watched, it oozed like toothpaste from out of a fissure in midair that only people like her could see.

Her purple-tipped black hair, already short and spiky, stood even more on end as the thing squeezing out of the fissure, a dead demon’s soul, popped free of whatever realm and mystical enclosure it had been inside. The toothpastey glob took a transparent, vaguely humanoid shape, but its glowing crimson eyes were sharp and clear. A malevolent wave of rage and hate rolled off the soul, and Vex backed away, even though escape was impossible for her.

She was what her parents had called a daemani, a demon soul magnet, a person to whom souls stuck like glue. According to them, most daemanis couldn’t prevent it from happening, and that was a serious pain in the ass. If a demon died near Vex, not even the Grim Reaper’s personal daemanis, creatures called griminions, had a chance to collect the soul before it got sucked into her and stored as a glyph on her skin.

The demon shrieked, a sound only she or another soul-sensitive person could hear, as it struggled to keep from being sucked into the prison of her body. In a futile attempt to avoid the inevitable, she fled, her booted feet nimbly negotiating the rock shard-strewn ground that was all too common in this part of Sheoul.

But no matter how fast she ran, every time she looked over her shoulder, the distance between her and the soul had decreased. Closer. Closer.

. . . But he believed in fate, and he didn’t doubt that two souls who were meant for each other would always find their way back no matter how many lives it took to do it.

Kindle Loc. 278 of 2145

See, even the Grim Reaper has a heart. His second-in-command, fallen angel Zhubaal, has been searching for the reincarnation of his lost love, Laura, for decades. When he encounters an emim, Vex, Zhubaal feels an undeniable pull towards her — has he finally been reunited with his other half?

Z is the latest offering in Larissa Ione’s spectacular Demonica Underworld Series, as well as being the latest entry in the 1001 Dark Nights Series. It’s a heart-wrenching love story set in the depths of Hell.

A standalone novella, Z tells the story of a fallen angel longing for his lost love. Both Zhubaal (Z) and Vex are compelling and sympathetic — author Ione’s characters capture the reader immediately. The secondary characters (Azagoth, et al, all known to Demonica fans) are fascinating — it’s Ione’s gift that she can make the demons of Hell likeable.

Author Ione artfully weaves this tale of desire and lust while treating the reader with a dark, gruesome and utterly delightful journey through her supernatural universe.  Yes, delightful — how can one not smile when introduced to two heavenly angels with nasty attitudes named Jim Bob and Ricky Bobby?

If you are new to Larissa Ione’s Demonica Underworld Series, the author wisely provides a glossary of terms that guides you through creatures/powers/realms. For those of us who happily descend into every Demonica story, Z is simply another gift from author Ione to us, her insatiable fans. Indulge yourself in — it’s a dark journey that will enlighten your spirit.

Note: Z is an adult romance set in the supernatural/fantasy genre. It contains explicit sexual situations, for mature audiences only.

Release Day Blitz: Always You by C. M. Steele

always you - release day.jpg

Always you.jpgAlexander Richmond didn’t expect to spend spring break with the most beautiful female he’d ever seen when he planned to visit his buddy. She was more temptation than a week of bikini clad women on South Padre Island. There was just one major hiccup. She was only sixteen. By the end of the week, he made the decision to wait for her to grow up. Two very long years.

Calista (Cali) Delaney was shocked at her immediate reaction she had to her brother’s best friend. The tall handsome Alex was too perfect. After the first week together, she fantasized what a life with him could be like.

In two years many things could happen and did, but will it stop Alex and Cali from being together?

Of Course not, but follow their love story through pain and tragedy and a whole lot of loving.

Chapter 1

It was my final spring break before I graduated from college. Real life was just a stone’s throw away and I couldn’t wait for it. I drove my Lexus from Dallas to Irving. It may be spring break, but I wanted to spend it with my best friend instead of the beach. When Rob offered to let me stay at his place, I jumped at the chance at a normal, middle class, relaxing family visit. I hated the crowds and all the drunk bitches trying to crawl up my body, looking for a ride on my cock. With my bag in my hand, I made my way up their steps.

I was about to knock on the door when it opened and I saw the hottest female I’d ever seen. Now, I’d let her crawl up my body.  “Hi, you must be Alex. I’m Calista, but most call me Cali. Rob’s in the back.”

I paused for a moment—stunned. This had to be Rob’s little sister. He talked about her all the time, but never showed me a photo. Now I understood why; she was beautiful. The first thing that popped into my brain was that she was only sixteen. She didn’t look anything like a normal sixteen-year-old. Everything about her from the way she stood, to the curvature of her body made her look older. Even her face looked at least twenty-one. She stood there with her blonde hair in a tight ponytail, in skintight workout clothes. My body had an immediate and very inappropriate reaction to her. I didn’t know how to get my boy down. I wanted her and it was wrong. I never did anything wrong, so it pissed me the fuck off and like a prick, I took it out on her.

“Yeah, I am.” I swallowed deeply. “You know, you shouldn’t answer the door like that. It’s not safe.” I knew she took it the wrong way, when she looked down at her clothes like I disapproved. Granted, I did because that shit was too tight, but I was talking about the fact that she didn’t even look to see who was at the door before she opened it. I took in her appearance again because I couldn’t stop myself. Jealousy skirted through my mind, irrationally. She was technically a kid. It was not for me to even look at, let alone feel territorial over; but sure enough, I did.

“There’s nothing wrong with my outfit,” she snapped. “My brother’s that way. Excuse me, I’ve got to run.” She rushed passed me in a pair of yoga capris and a tight running shirt, making her way down a wooden path across the street from their home. I couldn’t take my eyes off her. Her ass bounced so nicely, I forgot she was just a teen. If I forgot, so did every other guy that she crossed paths with.

Rob came up behind me as I stared off into the distance watching her jog away from me. “So you met my sister.” He chuckled. “I told you men think she’s older. We’ve got a lot of trouble on our hands when she starts dating. Anyways, come on through, enjoy some food and let’s chill.”

I was still looking out the door when he closed it. “She’s fine,” he said, tapping my shoulder.

“Yes, she is,” I muttered under my breath. I let it slip and Rob shook his head.

“In two years, Alex. She’s legal in two years, but not before.” He gave me a look, warning me off. He knew I wasn’t a bastard toward women, but Cali was his sister. So it didn’t matter if I was perfect.

“I’m sorry. That was rude of me.” Fuck, get it together, I mentally chastised myself. Calista was a little girl.

“You’re not the first, Alex.” That jealousy came back again with a vengeance. He just gave me a smirk and walked to the backyard.

The entire time we sat in the backyard, having beers and eating steak, I was looking at the door, waiting for her to return. Participating in our conversation was damn near impossible when all my concentration was focused on when she would get back.

“Don’t you think your sister’s been gone a long time?” I asked.

“No, man. She’s only been gone about an hour. She should be back soon. She’s usually gone about an hour and a half.” Damn that was a long time. Cali needed a fucking treadmill. I was going to look into that Tread Climber when I got home.

Holy shit balls. I opened the door to the man who would steal my soul if I’d let him. Alexander Richmond was stupidly handsome. I couldn’t believe the way my body reacted the moment he smiled up at me. It didn’t last long, after the welcoming smile came the stone cold look that I noticed my brother give my friend Lydia anytime she was around. Immediately I knew what he was thinking. Rob thought Lydia’s crush on him was annoying and out of control. Did I look as pathetic as she did? Was I drooling like a silly school girl. I was a silly school girl, which was probably why Alexander was giving me that damn arched brow. He had to be about six three and built like a quarterback. His eyes were the brightest blue, brighter even than the Texas morning sky. They narrowed at me before he made a nasty remark about my clothes. What a fucking dick! There went that crush. Oh well, Danny Moore was still handsome, and he didn’t give me that ‘I smell manure’ face.

Spotting Rob, out the corner of my eye, coming from the backyard, I excused myself to go on my run. My brother would try to make me stay to be hospitable, and I needed to get my head together before I talked to the sexy jackass Alexander again.

My usual route to the park wouldn’t be good enough, I had to go the long way around, through a few hills. The spring breeze cooled my heated body the minute I hit the trail. Within the first mile, I had managed to calm down. I didn’t know why I was so riled up. Maybe it was because I was offended. My outfit wasn’t any different than any other runner. It fit me snug like it was supposed to, but he had a problem with it—like I was inviting trouble.

I ran harder than before, hating that I wanted to ask him why he was being mean to me. I was about three miles in when I was focused on the image of Alex’s face. He had light brown hair with pretty baby blues. His jaw was taut with a little bit of facial hair. I was meditating on the crooked smile he gave me when I opened the door and didn’t see the other person on a bike. Trying to avoid a serious tangle up, I tripped up on my own feet and twisted my ankle. In frustration and emotional defeat, I sat there thinking about Alexander and his stupid face. I mentally accused him for making me careless.

Starting to make my way back, I was about two miles from the house and close to the main path when I saw my friend’s older brother. “Hi Mark. I didn’t know you ran?” I asked. I knew he hated it, but maybe he thought he needed to workout.

“I just started. It’s harder than I thought. Are you okay?” he asked, noticing my gait.

“Just tweaked my ankle,” I told him. I didn’t want to go into details. God, I hated to be interrupted while I was running. When I ran, all I wanted was my music and to be alone with my thoughts.

“So, do you run often?”

“Every other day,” I said blandly, hoping he’d get the hint.

“Maybe we could run together sometime. Well, at least until I quit.” How did I know that was coming?

“Ha-ha. I don’t have a set time that I run, so it’ll be kind of hard to meet with your work schedule.”

“I can make time to run with you. Besides, it would be safer if you had someone to run with.”

He wasn’t getting the hint. Sometimes I wondered if he and Lydia were truly related. Mark was so different. “Truthfully, Mark. I like to run by myself. It clears my head.”

“That’s cool.” He looked down the path closer to his house. “I’ve got to go. Are you sure you’re alright?”

“Yes, thanks.” I gave him a half smile.

“Okay, don’t forget movie night. Lydia’s looking forward to it.” Somehow I had a feeling he was looking forward to it, too.

“You know I won’t.” He ran in the opposite direction. I liked Lydia’s brother, but the way he looked at me kind of unnerved me. It was like he wanted me—intimately.

I shook my head, wiping Mark from my brain, but unfortunately that brought Alex to the forefront. Damn it. I limped into the house, but no one heard me. I assumed they were all still out in the back, so I went to the upstairs bathroom. Looking in the cabinet under the sink, I couldn’t find the wrap for my ankle. I had no idea where Rob put it, so I had to shuffle back down the stairs to ask my mom. The moment I hit the backdoor, Alex’s eyes were trained on mine. I blushed looking away, but I could feel his presence. Fuck, he ruined me for anyone else—with just his concern.

It was almost dark when she came in sweating and limping. Her family was frantic with concern and invading her space, but as a stranger I had to stand back. I really wanted to knock them out of the way to take care of her. They laughed at me when I asked when she’d be back, but I was right; something bad had happened.

“What happened?” her mother asked.

“Some dumbass on a bike didn’t see me. I tried to get out of his way, twisting my ankle in the process.” She flushed with embarrassment when she noticed me standing there. Feelings of protectiveness washed over me the moment we made eye contact. I wanted to go find that dumbass and punch him in the mouth—accident or not.

“You sure it’s not broken?” I asked from the sidelines, wanting to take her to the hospital like they should be doing in my opinion.

“Yeah, it’s just swollen,” she answered, smiling back at me.

I gave her a little smile back, but grabbed my beer and headed to the kitchen to toss it, and get some air. We were in the backyard for fucks sake and I still felt like I couldn’t breathe. If she liked me even a fraction, I would be in a heap of trouble.

I slept in the guest bedroom down the hall from her, and it was the longest sleepless night ever. I was hard, but I refused to jerk off to her. Even though we weren’t that far apart in age, she was still a minor. I felt dirty for even thinking of it, but my cock didn’t care.

“I’m the youngest of three. Nothing’s ever just about me.”

He blinks slowly, eyes heavy lidded. “Something should be.”

The moment twists, the humour dissolving in the frisson that grows between us. I feel it crackling and buzzing against my skin, and all I can think about is that kiss.

Soft, sure. A brief moment of everything.

“Something?” I ask, a little breathlessly.

He catches my gaze, holding it without trying. In that instant I know for sure that whatever I’m feeling for him isn’t one-sided. It weaves between us, soft as silk, unbreakable as iron. It makes me feel delighted and downright scared. I can cope with a crush, enjoy it even. Treat him like the eye-candy he is, a piece of deliciousness to look forward to when I enter the office. But mutual attraction? That’s dangerous. It’s a lingering force that threatens everything; my job, my degree, my hopes for the future.

Here be dragons, but rather than run away from the flames, I’m letting them consume me.

“Get degree, get a job and get the hell out of here, I remind myself . . . If only my heart believed that.”

Kindle Loc. 1559 of 4986

Twenty-three year old Amy Cartwright has learned the hard way to keep her priorities in focus. Raised without a father and with her mother, Tina, in complete disarray, Amy just wants to graduate from college. Don’t even bring up her slime-bag, cheating ex, Luke. She’s finally moving on from the past and work, not love, is now her goal. Amy needs to finish her required internship at the Richards and Morgan firm to complete her degree. The last thing she needs is another distraction.

Enter Callum Ferguson. Oxford educated, green-eyed with auburn hair, thirty-three year old Ferguson is a Scotsman with a panty-dropping burr. Smart, hunky, Callum has been putting up a good front since the death of his wife, Jane, a few years earlier. He’s learned to manage on his own and it’s safe to say Callum has learned to channel his energies into his work.  Callum doesn’t want any distractions, either.

Here comes Fate. Fate often has a twisted sense of humor. In this instance, the firm that employs both Amy and Callum, Richards and Morgan, has some pretty strict rules regarding fraternization between employees.  Yes, that’s right — hands off your PA — or else out you go.

Both Callum and Amy are still putting their own pasts to rest. Family issues are ever-present and let’s not forget that company “no fraternization” policy that hangs over their heads. So what happens when Callum and Amy give in to their attraction to one another?

Canada Square is the third offering in author Carrie Elks’ Love in London Series. It is a standalone novel — you need not to have read any of the previous books to enjoy Canada Square.

While the boss/intern trope employed in Canada Square is common, author Elks’ enjoyable writing elevates that theme.  Her main characters are well developed, admirable and the reader is sympathetic to their plights. The writing is smooth and the pace is even — the story never bogs down. The secondary characters are equally rounded out and fit into their plot lines neatly. This reader found no extraneous characters or fillers in this story. Elks development of her protagonist, Amy, is done with a masterful hand — one of the best examples of believable, sensical character growth this reader has encountered in the Romance Genre.

Well done, Carrie Elks!

Cover Reveal: Moms on Missions by Jess Molly Brown

 Title: Moms On Missions
Series: Mommageddon Series #1
By: Jess Molly Brown
Publication Date: May, 2016
Genre: Contemporary/Humor Women’s Fiction

Artist Vince Russo wants to advance his career but his devout mother, Diana, wants grandchildren. Vince lives in Niagara Falls, the Romance Capital of the World, and he doesn’t even date!

Diana joins the Moms on Missions (“MOM”), who strive to better the lives of their clients’ kids. MOM installs Vince’s fantasy girl upstairs in the duplex where he lives.

Their pick for Vince is sick of dancing to her mother’s tune, so she certainly won’t admit she finds her sensitive, playful neighbour sexy. However, she’d love to make him her pseudo-boyfriend to get MOM off her back.

Will these young rebels come together organically, or is there no hope for their moms?

“Fuck you!” Drum Boy slams Mrs. P.’s door in his superintendent’s face.

Vince stares open-mouthed at the door in front of him, then turns on the landing to find Paeng at the foot of the stairs, dressed for bed, with no glasses. Steaming, Vince tromps back down the stairs, in time to hear the drumming start again. “What a nerve this guy’s got! Little shit.” Now Drum Boy is singing, too. Badly. Vince stops, wondering whether to turn around and march back up there to rattle his teeth.

Instead, he stomps back into his unit, Paeng at his back, and calls Damon.

“Vince, hey, how’s it hangin’?” Damon asks cheerfully. “Want to hit The Hill for a few beers? I’m dying to get out for a bit.”

“No. Do you hear this?” Vince holds up his phone to the ceiling, hoping it picks up the noise.

Boom boom chuck budda boom boom chuck budda “I don’t need a frickin’ girlfriend!” Boom boom chuck budda boom boom chuck . . . “My neighbour is an asshole!”“What is that?” Damon asks stupidly.

“It’s your new tenant,” Vince growls. “He drums twenty-four seven. I have explained this to you, Damon. Twice. The last time Paeng and I had two minutes’ peace was the day before he moved in. I am losing it, man. I’m going to go postal soon. If I do, you are going to have to explain why to our mothers, and you are going to have to comfort them both while I’m getting corn-holed in Kingston Pen for capping the little bastard, capisce?”

“Whoa-ho-ho, there Vince! Did you say there’s a guy living up there? It was supposed to be Mrs. Maggione’s friend Gloria’s daughter, Mary. She’s gor—” Damon checks himself, and Vince scowls. “Um, I mean uh . . . Trudy?” he calls to his wife. “Get me another beer!”

Vince counts to ten. “Did Moms on Missions set this up?” There is silence for a couple beats. From Damon, not Drum Boy. The noise from above is as obnoxious as ever.

Damon sighs. “Yeah, you know it. I didn’t even meet the Chiclet.”

“No, no, it’s a guy! And the name on the mailbox says D. Darren, not M. diGiordano. Why didn’t you come to check out the tenant?”

“My mother wouldn’t put a crackhead in there, ya know?”

“And a drummer makes a better tenant because . . .”

1001 Dark Nights Presents: Review and Excerpt: Devoted by Lexi Blake

IMG_3674A woman’s work

Amy Slaten has devoted her life to Slaten Industries. After ousting her corrupt father and taking over the CEO role, she thought she could relax and enjoy taking her company to the next level. But an old business rivalry rears its ugly head. The only thing that can
possibly take her mind off business is the training class at Sanctum…and her training partner, the gorgeous and funny Flynn Adler. If she can just manage to best her mysterious business rival, life might be perfect.

A man’s commitment

Flynn Adler never thought he would fall for the enemy. Business is war, or so his father always claimed. He was raised to be ruthless when it came to the family company, and now he’s raising his brother to one day work with him. The first order of business? The hostile takeover of Slaten Industries. It’s a stressful job so when his brother offers him a spot in Sanctum’s training program, Flynn jumps at the chance.

A lifetime of devotion….

When Flynn realizes the woman he’s falling for is none other than the CEO of the firm he needs to take down, he has to make a choice. Does he take care of the woman he’s falling in love with or the business he’s worked a lifetime to build? And when Amy finally understands the man she’s come to trust is none other than the enemy, will she walk away from him or fight for the love she’s come to depend on?

“I’ve been burned before,” he replied quietly. “Several times.”

She softened slightly. She did understand corporate spying. Her father had practically been the CIA. It was why she hadn’t gone after Glendale the way she should. She knew the sins her dad had committed against them. She didn’t understand them entirely or why her father had hated Glendale in particular, but she knew the Adlers had been burned more than once by her father’s deep belief in corporate espionage. “I’m sorry to hear that. I really wasn’t trying to hurt you. I don’t even know what you do. I don’t have a reason to take something from you.”

He stared down at her and for a moment she thought he was going to argue. Then he dragged her close and his mouth was on hers. He kissed her like a starving man, his tongue plunging deep.

He needed. She could feel it. She wasn’t sure what it was he was asking her for, but she felt his bone-deep need. It poured off him, and everything that was soft and warm inside her responded. That affectionate part of herself bent to his will. She’d shoved it down for so very long. Her love and affection weren’t needed in her father’s world. It had been something to hide away and toss out because it had been useless.

Flynn needed it and she was determined to give it to him.

“Don’t go,” he said against her lips. “Stay with me.”

It was all she’d wanted to do in the first place. “Yes.”

He picked her up, hauling her high against his chest, but when she thought he would move back to the bedroom, he strode toward his desk. He sat down with her in his lap and flipped open his laptop. The screen was suddenly on, but she was thinking far more about the thick erection pressed against her backside.

“Type. Be fast. I don’t want to wait,” he growled against her ear.

He’d pulled up his e-mail and moved the cursor to where she would put in a name. His hands moved under her shirt, reaching up to cup her breasts as he licked and nipped at her ear.

How was she supposed to type when her whole body was busy responding to him? “Flynn, I’m going to make a mess of this.”

“Type or I’ll explain to your boss that you’re far too busy pleasing your Master to come in to work today.”

Devoted teaser 3 (1)

Amy Slaten is trying to right her father’s business wrongs and keep Slaten Industries afloat. Her unscrupulous father was just about to tank the company when Amy stepped in and took over the reins. Determined to keep the company viable, she’s sacrificed a lot to save Slaten Industries. But the corporate grind has taken its toll.  All she wants is for someone to take care of her, to dominate her, to give her some relief. When the opportunity to enter a Sub-In-Training class at Sanctum arises, Amy eagerly signs up.

Flynn Adler, genius software designer and owner of Glendale Incorporated, always keeps his eyes on the competition.  One rival in particular, Slaten Industries, has been at the back of Flynn’s mind lately. The constant demands of his work are taking a heavy toll on him, and Flynn finds himself signing up for a Dom-in-Training class at Sanctum. With the right Sub, Flynn can let go of the suffocating stress in his life and find sweet relief.

Eager to start training, Flynn is stunned to find that Kai has paired him with Amy Slaten, his business nemesis. Amy has no clue who Flynn is — he’s not using his full name. But then again, neither is Amy using Slaten. Divorced, she opts to use her married name which arouses all sort of suspicions in Flynn.  Luckily for both them, suspicions are not the only thing aroused between the two. The attraction is instantaneous. While Flynn and Amy happily (and heavily) fall into the D/s lifestyle, both are still keeping secrets from one another.  When the inevitable happens, can their relationship survive?

Devoted is Number 10.5 in Lexi Blake’s terrific Masters and Mercenaries Series, and is an offering of the 1001 Dark Nights Series as well.

As with all of author Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries works, Devoted is a well written story focusing on a specific D/s coupling at Sanctum. The characters of Flynn and Amy are believable, the plot line intriguing and the sex scenes are just never enough. As one has come to expect from Lexi Blake, the ancillary characters are just as interesting as the protagonists and the story is smoothly paced.

A quick read, it’s always such a satisfying experience to get to hang with the group at McKay Taggart. Why not treat yourself to Devoted and escape from whatever’s stressing you? You won’t be disappointed.
