HARD TO SERVE
A Note from Laura Kaye —
So many readers asked for more stories in my bestselling Hard Ink series, and I’m so excited to be able to give you just that in my new, super sexy HARD TO SERVE! HARD TO SERVE is an edgy stand-alone love story about a Baltimore police detective whose red-hot BDSM relationship with a new submissive seems like the perfect distraction from a trumped-up investigation against him until he learns that the woman is his boss’s daughter. Talk about sparks flying! I had so much fun writing this book, and I can’t wait for everyone to read it! And if you enjoy it, you might like to check out the whole Hard Ink series, now complete! Happy reading!
– SYNOPSIS –
To protect and serve is all Detective Kyler Vance ever wanted to do, so when Internal Affairs investigates him as part of the new police commissioner’s bid to oust corruption, everything is on the line. Which makes meeting a smart, gorgeous submissive at an exclusive play club the perfect distraction…
The director of the city’s hottest art gallery, Mia Breslin’s career is golden. Now if only she could find a man to dominate her nights and set her body—and her heart—on fire. When a scorching scene with a hard-bodied, brooding Dom at Blasphemy promises just that, Mia is lured to serve Kyler again and again.
As their relationship burns hotter, Kyler runs into Mia at work and learns that he’s been dominating the daughter of the hard-ass boss who has it in for him. Now Kyler must choose between life-long duty and forbidden desire before Mia finds another who’s not so hard to serve.
– EXCERPT –
A Dare —
Sitting on the little, private loveseat at the back of the big bar area, nervous anticipation jangled through Mia. “So…about you being an asshole…”
Chuckling, Kyler took her hand and winked. “Yes, about that. I’m sorry, because I’d like to see you again.”
The room spun around her, despite the fact that she was sitting perfectly still. But then she shook her head. “I can’t afford it.” She’d received the offer of full membership, but between the cost and how she and Master Kyler had left things, she hadn’t even given it a second thought.
“I’m not talking about Blasphemy, Mia. Well, not just Blasphemy. I’m talking about me and you.” He traced his finger over her thigh close to her knee.
She shivered, as much from the touch as from the words. “Me and you,” she repeated.
“Sounds even better when you say it,” he said, leaning in and nuzzling her face. He kissed her temple, her cheek, the corner of her mouth. “I just need you to know, I don’t do this, Mia. Any of this. Because I’ve never before met anyone who made me want to do it. And I’m not even sure I’ll be any good at it. But this last week has been fucking miserable, and I—”
She’d heard enough. Enough to know what she wanted. She kissed him. Planted her hands in his hair and kissed him so damn hard.
The growl he unleashed sounded like pure victory, especially when he quickly took over, plundering her mouth with his tongue, hauling her onto his lap so that she straddled him. He tugged her hair, rubbed hard hands over her body, pressed his erection up against her wet panties.
“Oh, God,” she rasped around the edge of the kiss.
“Fucking missed you,” he said, his hands finally touching her breasts, kneading and squeezing through the thin cotton of the little bronze-colored dress. “Fucking need you.”
“I need you, too,” she rasped, grinding against his erection. Her blood was molten, and a sheen of sweat broke out over her body. She was already so close.
“Don’t come,” he ordered. His big palm slipped under the flowy pleats of her dress and gripped her ass. Hard. “You do not have permission to come.”
She whimpered, because the command shoved her in that direction, just like he must’ve known it would. The sexy bastard. “Please, Sir. Please.”
He nailed her with a stare, his eyes dark blue fire. “You want to come, Mia?”
A fast nod. “Yes, Sir.”
“You want to come, you do it on my cock.”
For a second, Mia couldn’t breathe, because she wasn’t sure she’d ever been so turned on in her whole life. “Here? Now?”
Kyler just looked at her, one eyebrow arched in a challenge, a dare.
– REVIEW –
Author Laura Kaye continues her Valentine to the heroes and heroines of Baltimore in her latest offering, Hard to Serve. In a seamless segue from her Hard Ink Series, she sets the scene for her new BDSM series, Blasphemy. Be ready to be grabbed by the throat . . . .
Detective Kyler Vance is restless and edgy. He’s been on desk assignment for weeks since suffering an injury during the gang war that took the life of his godfather. He needs relief, and soon. As one of the owners of the exclusive BDSM club Blasphemy, Kyler (or as he’s know at Blasphemy, Master Kyler) heads out to check in on the action at the club.
Enter Mia Breslin. New to Baltimore, Mia, a submissive, is in the throes of opening her first art gallery. Prior to her move to Charm City, Mia did some research into Baltimore’s BDSM scene and now holds a probationary membership in Blasphemy. The stress from work leads her out to seek some relief at the club.
Kyler spots Mia on a security monitor at the club, and is immediately taken with her — call it Alpha male insta-lust. When the two finally make contact, the chemistry is hot and palpable. (Author Kaye’s keyboard must have melted when she wrote the scenes between these two — the action between these characters is absolutely scorching.)
While Kyler and Mia play at Blasphemy, life outside of the club continues to be complicated. When their paths inevitably cross in real life, both Mia and Kyler are forced to confront the truths about themselves and their feelings for one another.
Hard to Serve is a stand alone novella, and the newest release in the 1001 Dark Nights Series. It is the introductory story in Laura Kaye’s Blasphemy Series which will explore relationships within the BDSM community. As such, Hard to Serve comes with a caution, as it contains themes that include breath play, as well as forced consent.
Very well written, the story focuses on the relationship between Kyler and Mia, and the scenes between the two at Blasphemy are very graphic, hard core and certainly fall under the heading of erotica. All of the characters, protagonists and ancillary, are well written. Familiar faces from the Hard Ink Series make cameo appearances but are not a distraction to the major plot.
One does not have to have read any of the Hard Ink Series to enjoy Hard to Serve and while there were instances where this reader had her heart in her throat, Hard to Serve also has this reader waiting with bated breath for more Blasphemy.
