– SYNOPSIS –
Sex. Lies. Greed. Power. Scandal. Politics.
Political strategist, Elizabeth McNeal has been called a lot of things throughout her career—bitch being at the top of the list—but she doesn’t let it get to her. She’s bold, she’s blunt, and she takes orders from no one. This is how she’s survived working in a man’s world. She’s the master of diversion, and her specialty is winning an election—no matter the cost.
That is, until she meets her new client, Democratic candidate, Congressman William Baxter. Kind, considerate, insanely handsome, honest, and ten years her junior, he’s a unicorn among politicians. He infuriates her. He challenges her. Most of all, he makes her see past the scandalous world of politics and helps her to discover the heart of the woman inside her.
With sparks flying between them and the election rapidly approaching, the last thing either of them need is to be caught in a compromising position. Some lines are meant to be crossed and some rules broken, but for Elizabeth and Liam is it worth the cost of being politically incorrect?
– REVIEW –
Texan Elizabeth McNeal is know in the political world as The Queen of Politics. At age forty-five, her standing in both the Lone Star State as well as in the power hungry halls of Washington D. C. has earned her a sterling reputation as a top Democratic operative. A brilliant strategist, Elizabeth can package and propel the right candidate into just about any elected office.
Texas Congressman William (Liam) Baxter, thirty-four and ex-military, has decided to make a run for a recently vacated seat in the U.S. Senate. He’s going to need all the help he can get — he might be gorgeous and morally upright, but we’re talking politics in Texas, folks. Liam needs the best people to reach his goal, and who better than Elizabeth McNeal to manage his campaign?
A confident, handsome man in his prime meets a confident, beautiful woman in her prime. Set in the arena of wealth, power and politics, the sizzling attraction between Elizabeth and Liam is obvious — undeniable to everyone including the jaded Elizabeth. Conscious of both the age difference between herself and Liam, and the seeming impropriety of a candidate/campaign manager affair, Elizabeth tries to take an ethical stand.
Jeanne McDonald’s Politically Incorrect is filled with all the behind the scenes action one suspects actually happens in the power hungry world of politics.
Told exclusively from Elizabeth’s POV, author McDonald gives the reader an older woman/younger man romance that is refreshing, sexy and, at times, funny:
” . . . Worse yet, I was officially a cougar!”
Kindle Loc. 2987 of 5004
The plot, while entertaining, is somewhat predictable, and a Liam POV would have been appreciated. The characterization of Elizabeth vacillates between a hardened political operative and a woman on estrogen overload. The ancillary characters are well written — the hijinks between Aaron and Scout could easily translate into a story of their own.
A light, enjoyable read, Politically Incorrect is a win at the ballot box for author Jeanne McDonald.
