1001 Dark Nights Presents: Review and Excerpt Tour – Sweet Rivalry by K. Bromberg

SWEET RIVALRY - Tour banner

sweetrivRyder Rodgers had a plan.

He was going to stride into the conference room, do the required song and dance over the next five days, and win the biggest contract of his career. But when he walked in and heard the voice of one of his competitors, all his plans were shot to hell.

Harper Denton. She was always on top. In college. First in their class. Always using every advantage to edge him out to win the coveted positions. The only one who could beat him. His academic rival. More like a constant thorn in his side. And his ego’s.

When he heard her voice, he was brought back to years before. To the bitter taste of being second best. But the woman who meets his gaze is nothing like the drab wallflower he used to know. Hell no. She was all woman now: curves, confidence, and staggering sex appeal. And no doubt, still brilliant.

The fact that she’s gorgeous and bright won’t distract him. This time, Ryder’s determined to be the one on top. But not if Harper can help it.

Work first. Reward sex next.

That’ll give me something to look forward to during the next few days. The ones I can’t wait to dive headfirst into that will be an ever-changing combination of stress, exhaustion, strategy, and manipulation. An unscripted dance amongst us bidders while we size each other up, calculate our numbers, and explain to the developer why we’re the most valuable candidate for the job.

It’s the game I love. The competition I thrive on. My return to the job that I’ve been desperate to make.

And there’d be no better way to make a statement that Harper Denton is back than to leave this building with the multimillion dollar contract for Meteor Development tucked securely under my arm.

And just like that, as a reward for my positive thinking, when I look up, there he is, in full view.

I take in the expensive briefcase, the venti Starbucks, and the expensive watch peeking out from beneath the cuff of his shirt. And just my luck that while I’m afforded a full view of his body, the one thing I’m the most curious about is obscured by his hand holding his cell phone up to his ear: his face.

So instead I drink him in. He really is magnificent. I note his posture and the way he carries his body when he moves forward a few steps. There’s an air about him that says he’s no-nonsense and in control, powerful, and at the same time he doesn’t seem uptight. He has that Southern

California professional vibe. I can’t put my finger on it but he reminds me of someone I can’t quite place. Regardless, a man who can pull off being in control and playful has definite merits.

Like “spank me until my body aches in want, and then make a game of hitting each erogenous zone with his tongue before he’ll satisfy that ache he created and let me come” type of merits.

The mind-blowing-sex reward just became even more appealing.

shirtless tattoed man on white looking down

Ryder Rodgers and Harper Denton were in a heated scholastic rivalry while attending graduate school at UCLA. Their intense competitive natures fueled a simmering attraction that neither acted upon — that is until graduation. A scorching farewell kiss between the two left them both stunned. Harper headed to New York, where her career waited, while Ryder pursued his future in Los Angeles.

Thirteen years laters, Harper returns to Los Angeles hoping to score a major business contract that will cement her future with a new employer, Meteor Development. She’s shocked to find herself in competition for the lucrative contract with none other than Ryder. Ryder, tanned and tatted, has matured into a fine specimen of a man — something that doesn’t escape Harper.  Harper’s looks haven’t escaped Ryder’s notice either — she’s no longer the subdued, insecure girl he kissed. A confident Harper works a pencil skirt and a pair of pink stilettos in a manner that leaves Ryder panting for her.

Amid the air of unfinished business, Harper and Ryder compete for the contract, but it’s impossible to keep the chemistry from combusting. And boy, does it ever . . . .

K. Bromberg’s Sweet Rivalry is the latest offering from the good people at 1001 Dark Nights. A novella, Sweet Rivalry is a short, sizzling story loaded with a snap-crackle-and-pop dialogue that makes it totally worth the read.  As Sweet Rivalry is a HFN, here’s hoping we’re treated in the future to more of Harper and Ryder’s story (hint, hint).

HeadShot ColorNew York Times Bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines, and damaged heroes who we love to hate and hate to love.

She’s a mixture of most of her female characters: sassy, intelligent, stubborn, reserved, outgoing, driven, emotional, strong, and wears her heart on her sleeve. All of which she displays daily with her husband and three children where they live in Southern California.

On a whim, K. Bromberg decided to try her hand at this writing thing. Since then she has written The Driven Series (Driven, Fueled, Crashed, Raced, Aced), the standalone Driven Novels (Slow Burn, Sweet Ache, Hard Beat, and Down Shift), and a novella (UnRaveled). She is currently finishing up Sweet Cheeks a standalone novel out November 14th.

Her plans for 2017 include a sports romance duet (2 books: The Player, The Catch) and the Everyday Heroes series (3 books: Cuffed, Combust, and Cockpit). She’s also writing a novella for the 1001 Dark Nights series that will be out in February 2017.

1001 Dark Nights Presents: Adoring Ink by Carrie Ann Ryan

1001_2017_Carrie Ann Ryan_300dpi

The Montgomery Ink series continues with the most unlikely of romances between the one that got away and the man who can show her the world.
adoring-ink-teaser-2Holly Rose fell in love with a Montgomery, but left him when he couldn’t love her back. She might have been the one to break the ties and ensure her ex’s happy ending, but now Holly’s afraid she’s missed out on more than a chance at forever. Though she’s always been the dependable good girl, she’s ready to take a leap of faith and embark on the journey of a lifetime.

Brody Deacon loves ink, women, fast cars, and living life like there’s no tomorrow. The adoring-ink-teaser-1thing is, he doesn’t know if he has a tomorrow at all. When he sees Holly, he’s not only intrigued, he also hears the warnings of danger in his head. She’s too sweet, too innocent, and way too special for him. But when Holly asks him to help her grab the bull by the horns, he can’t help but go all in.

As they explore Holly’s bucket list and their own desires, Brody will have to make sure he
doesn’t fall too hard and too fast. Sometimes, people think happily ever afters don’t happen for everyone, and Brody will have to face his demons and tell Holly the truth of what it means to truly live life to the fullest…even when they’re both running out of time.

If you’re a fan of Carrie Ann Ryan’s Montgomery Ink Series, I don’t have to tell you that this author is an expert on delivering to her readers the most delicious, hot, tatted up male characters. She is equally terrific at writing genuinely likeable female characters, so it should come as no surprise to her fans that her latest novella, Adoring Ink, is another must read in this series.

First grade teacher Holly Rose and mechanic Brody Deacon have a lot more in common than they think.

Holly’s former lover, Jake (of the Montgomery clan) left her to become part of a triad (ouch). But Holly, upon seeing the happiness of her ex, realizes she and Jake were never meant to be. And even though she’s no longer with Jake, the Montgomery’s claim her as kin.

Now that it’s summer and the school semester has ended, Holly is ready to shake up her life and check off some boxes on her bucket list. Holly heads to Taboo — a cafe owned by the Montgomery’s. While in her car en route and with the radio blasting, Holly is initially mortified when she discovers the guy on a bike in the next lane is listening to her off-key caterwauling. Holly decides that since the hot biker dude is someone she’ll never see again, let the caterwauling continue. Live a little, right?

Enter Brody Deacon. A mechanic by trade, Brody is viewed by the Montgomery/Gallagher clans as one of their own. With just a high school diploma, he has worked hard to carve out a life for himself.

Headed on his motorcycle to Montgomery Ink, Brody, stopped at a light, hears Holly’s off-key singing. Safe to say, it puts a bit of joy into his serious existence. Imagine both Brody and Holly’s surprise when they come face to face at Taboo — how have these two not met? Instant heat between these two leads to sexy times and heart-breaking revelations.

Brought to you by the good people of 1001 Dark Nights, Carrie Ann Ryan’s Adoring Ink is book 6.5 in the Montgomery Ink Series. It can be read as a stand alone novella, but a bit of familiarity with the Montgomery Ink Series is helpful. Adoring Ink is a quick, well-written and satisfying story, well worth your time.

rock-chick-reawakening-coverFrom New York Times bestselling author, Kristen Ashley, comes the long-awaited story of Daisy and Marcus, Rock Chick Reawakening. A prequel to Kristen’s Rock Chick series, Rock Chick Reawakening shares the tale of the devastating event that nearly broke Daisy, an event that set Marcus Sloan—one of Denver’s most respected businessmen and one of the Denver underground’s most feared crime bosses—into finally making his move to win the heart of the woman who stole his.

Obviously, I’d decided to go out with Marcus.

He wanted to convince me we were meant to be together, he’d been kind enough to me he’d earned that shot.

But he was going to know what he was getting.

To this end, I was wearing my leopard print (or one of them). A skintight mini-dress that only went down to there. The back was scooped all the way out and the front was scooped to maximum cleavage potential (and with the maximums of my cleavage, this might be awe-inspiring to some; heck, it was my cleavage and it was still that to me).

I was going to pair this with my sky-high platform sandals with the black patent across the balls of my feet, open toes to show off the new fire-engine-red pedicure I’d given myself (along with the same in a manicure, but on my long talons, I’d added a curve of amber rhinestones all along one side of the outer edge of each ring finger). The platform and heel of the shoes were covered in leopard.Baseball on the Infield Chalk Line with the Base in the distance

My hair was even more sky-high than my platforms. Teased to mammoth proportions at the top and sides, I’d smoothed that back and then curled the hell out of the rest of my tresses so they fell in soft, defined swirls from a high-rise at the crown all the way down my back (the bangs were blown out straight and brushing my forehead).

My makeup was how I’d do it if I was stripping, which was how I’d do it when I wasn’t stripping. My eyes weren’t smoky. They were smoke. My skin bronzed. The sides of my nose and under my cheekbones shaded. My cheeks a dewy tangerine. My lips a nude-y, super-glossed, glittering peach.

I had in bronze chandelier earrings that nearly swept my shoulders and were liberally dosed with black and amber beads. A bronze statement necklace practically covered my upper chest and I had so many dangly bracelets on, if Marcus got through the night without the noise of them tinkling driving him to murder me, he’d definitely pass an important test.

Full disclosure: Rock Chick Reawakening is my first encounter with the Rock Chick Series, and I’m hooked.

Rock Chick Reawakening is a prequel to the Rock Chick Series and it tells the story of how Daisy and Marcus Sloan came to be a couple. It is a stand alone novella in the series — you absolutely do not need to be familiar with the Rock Chick Series to appreciate this fine book.  Since this is a prequel, specific commentary on the action of the characters in this instance will give away the plot, so no spoilers, just generalities.

Daisy is a stripper with a heart of gold, air-in-her-hair, and a Bedazzler always nearby. Daisy knows who she is, she accepts herself and she has the grace to walk through life, head held high, knowing her truth. She sits in judgment of no one.

Marcus Sloan manages several escort services — i.e., he’s a pimp. (Ouch.) But he’s a noble pimp — he ensures the women are treated well and respected. Actually, Marcus has a true, deep respect for women. He doesn’t view Daisy any less for her work on the stripper pole — he respects her for it. And he loves Daisy with all his heart.

Rock Chick Reawakening tells the coming together of two people from difficult and hard backgrounds who fight not only to survive, but to thrive. Marcus and Daisy’s tale is one of understanding, patience, and the irrevocable open acceptance that is love.

Masterfully written, author Kristen Ashley in Rock Chick Reawakening gives her readers a well-paced story, full of memorable characters, rich in depth. The reader is instantly taken in with Daisy and Marcus, and the author leaves you wanting for more. Every situation in this novella, every nuance is perfectly crafted and placed. Be prepared to laugh, to cry, to say “What a great read!”

Brought to you from the good people at 1001 Dark Nights, Kristen Ashley’s Rock Chick Reawakening is romantic adult reading at its finest.

A Message from Kristen:

Dear Reader,

I’m beside myself with glee that this prequel to my Rock Chick series has been unleashed! There was some time when I never thought I’d write it. When I couldn’t be in that terrible place with Daisy. But I’m oh-so glad that she called to me, demanding her story be told so she could give it to me and now I can give it to you! I loved every moment spent with Daisy and Marcus. And I hope you do too!

kristen-ashley-headshotKristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

1001 Dark Nights Presents: Review & Excerpt Tour: Sweet Surrender by Liliana Hart

From New York Times Bestselling author Liliana Hart, comes SWEET SURRENDER, a sexy new novella filled with suspense in her MacKenzie Family Series, brought to you by 1,001 Dark Nights! Be sure you grab your copy today!

sweet-surrender-tour-teaser-1It’s been twelve years since Liza Carmichael stepped foot in Surrender, but after her great aunt’s death she has no choice but to return and settle her estate. Which includes the corner bakery that’s been a staple in Surrender for more than fifty years.

After twenty-five years on the job, Lieutenant Grant Boone finds himself at loose ends now that he’s retired. He’s gotten a number of job offers—one from MacKenzie Security—but he’s burned out and jaded, and the last thing he wants to do is carry the burden of another badge and weapon. He almost turns down the invitation from his good friend Cooper MacKenzie to stay as their guest for a few weeks while he’s deciding what to do with the rest of his life. But he packs his bag and heads to Surrender anyway.

The only thing Boone knows is that his future plans don’t include Liza Carmichael. She’s bossy, temperamental, and the confections she bakes are sweet enough to tempt a saint. Thank God he’s never pretended to be one. But after he gets one taste of Liza and things start heating up in the kitchen, he realizes how delicious new beginnings can be.

He could tell by looking the woman was an absolute hellcat. He’d tussled with them before, and he had a knack for attracting them. He’d worked most of his career undercover, but he always seemed to connect with dangerous women who added an extra element of risk to his drug enforcement days.

Grant grinned and shook his head. “Damn, Coop. You shouldn’t have said that. You know I love a good warning.”

“Her name’s Liza Carmichael,” Cooper said. “Her great aunt passed not long ago. She ran that bakery for fifty years. Mrs. Baker never missed a morning’s opening. Though I seem to recall her coming in late once after she buried her husband in the early nineties.”

“The old lady who owned the bakery was named Mrs. Baker?” Grant asked.

“Ironic, huh?”

“So Surrender has a new pastry chef,” Grant said. “Maybe I’ll take up donut eating after all. Once a cop, always a cop.”

Cooper laughed and shook his head. “You always were a glutton for punishment.”

“I miss the adrenaline rush.”

“Hey, I know what you mean. And I’m not saying you should swear off donuts, but honestly, I’d stay away from her. She’s made it crystal clear that her intentions are to lease the space or sell it outright. Whichever brings her the greatest profit. She has no desire to stay in Surrender.”

“Perfect,” he said. “Neither do I.”

Grant ran his fingers through his hair, pushing it back off his face, and he noticed Cooper’s scowl as his gaze locked on the disfiguring scar that ran the length of his left jaw to just behind his ear. He knew Cooper still carried the guilt of the injury, but there was nothing he or anyone could’ve done. It was just an undercover drug deal gone bad.

“Coop,” he said, trying to divert attention back to the very sexy Ms. Carmichael. “I can assure you that I will never swear off donuts. I have a powerful sweet tooth.”

“Are we still talking about actual donuts?”

“There’s all kinds of donuts,” he said, smiling. “And I’ve got a hell of an appetite.”

“I’m swearing off donuts,” he said in a slow drawl . . . .

“That’s a damned shame,” she said, feeling herself go hot all over. “I don’t think you’ve ever tasted one of my donuts. They’ll melt in your mouth.”

Grant Boone to Liza Carmichael

Sweet Surrender

Kindle Loc. 257 of 1301

Yeah, well ex-Detroit cop Grant Boone has no intention of swearing off donuts, especially a tasty donut of the Liza Carmichael variety.  Forced into an early retirement as fallout from some nasty action by his ex partner (and lover), Ryan Caine, Grant finds himself in Surrender, Montana.  Sheriff Cooper MacKenzie is an old buddy of Grant, and would like nothing better than to have his friend settle in Surrender as his deputy. But Grant’s crazy ex, Ryan is looking to kill him and Grant is basically running for his life.

Liza Carmichael is stopping in Surrender only long enough to sell her late Aunt Rose’s bakery. Like Grant, Liza has also been done wrong in the romance department and once the estate is settled, she’s headed to a new life in Los Angeles. Unfortunately for Liza, her plans are thwarted when Ryan shoots up the bakery in an attempt to kill Grant. Sheriff Cooper, Grant and Liza are all injured in the attempted murder, with the Sheriff sustaining some serious injuries, ending up in a hospital bed.  Grant and Liza, meanwhile, find a nice, big bed of their own in a safe place and proceed to tend their wounds by exchanging all sorts of bodily fluids, resulting in an epiphany for both — maybe Surrender is the perfect place to bury the past and start a future.

Sweet Surrender, a stand alone novella and part of author Liliana Hart’s popular MacKenzie Family series, is brought to you by the team at 1001 Dark Nights.  Action packed and filled with both sizzling chemistry and sassy dialogue, author Hart has written a gem of a story that was over too soon — I hope we hear more from these characters (something about a méange à trois, was mentioned, I believe). Sweet Surrender is a throughly enjoyable bit of naughty goodness — well done, Liliana Hart!

1001 Dark Nights Present: The Only One by Lauren Blakely – Review and Excerpt Tour

From New York Times Bestselling author Lauren Blakely, comes THE ONLY ONE, a sexy new standalone novella in her One Love Series, brought to you by 1,001 Dark Nights! Be sure you grab your copy today!

From the New York Times bestselling author of THE SEXY ONE comes a romance about fate and second chances.
the-only-one-coverLet’s say there was this guy. And he gave you the most mind-blowing night of sex in your life. And you never saw him again.

Until ten years later.

Now, it turns out he’s the ONLY ONE in all of Manhattan whose restaurant is available for my charity’s event.

The trouble is, he doesn’t recognize me.

This woman I’m working with is so damn alluring. The first time I set eyes on her, I’m captivated and I can’t get her out of my mind. Even if it’s risky to tango with someone I’m working with, she’s a risk I’m willing to take.

The trouble is, she won’t give me the time of day.

But I’m determined to change that.

Praise for Lauren Blakely and THE ONLY ONE:

“An extraordinarily dreamy love story that will melt your heart!”

~Beneath The Covers Book Blog

“This is an epic second chance romance that filled my heart with love, hope and longing.”

~5-Stars! Two Book Pushers

“Lauren has knocked this one out of the park and down the street into the kitchen of Rocco DiSpirito. This book is smart, sexy, and full of surprises with characters you can’t help but fall in love with. I want to find my very own Gabriel now. A sexy man with an accent who can cook for me. Who could ask for anything more?”

~Smut Book Junkie Book Reviews

“Insanely romantic and so genuinely charming…”

~Fresh Fiction Reviewer

I lean closer to the table, soften my voice. “Forgive me, but you look so familiar…”

Her eyes widen, and something vulnerable seems to flash in them. She brings a hand to  her hair. “I do?”

I nod vigorously. “Yes. So much. It’s eerie.”

She swallows. “We all remind each other of others, don’t we?”

“Perhaps we do,” I say. I’m not sure what to make of her answer so I return to the matter at hand, telling her more of what I would make for her charity fundraiser. My business manager, Eduardo, alerted me to this opportunity the other day when it landed on his desk. With my new restaurant opening a few months ago, I’ve been looking to make a splash in Manhattan. Reviews have been amazing and business has been robust, but I know that fortunes can turn on a dime. Hell, do I ever f*cking know that. “And I would make the most fantastic desserts for you, too,” I say with a wink, because that reminds me of the afternoon I met the girl in Barcelona—we’d both been eating dessert at a street-side café, where we’d started flirting.

“Desserts are my specialty.”

“What would you make?” she asks, then she murmurs oh God when I tell her what I’d create for the sweetest course. The soft sound she makes stirs something in my chest, then sends a rush of heat below the belt. That sense of déjà vu sharpens, and a reel of images snaps before my eyes, like puzzle pieces fighting to connect.

I scrub a hand over my jaw, arching an eyebrow. It’s driving me crazy. “Are you sure we’ve never met?”

Romantic couple touching and kissing each other

“What if we needed those years apart so we could get it right the second time around?”

Penny to Gabriel

The Only One

Kindle Loc. 1766 of 1937

Leave it to Lauren Blakely to write the perfect second chance novella, just in time to stuff the stocking of your favorite romantic comedy lover.

Lovely twenty-one year old Penelope “Penny” Jones is traveling in Europe before starting her investment banking career. Gorgeous French/Brazilian Gabriel Mathias, twenty-four, is working his way up in the culinary industry — he’s a line chef in a Barcelona restaurant. Penny and Gabriel meet at an outdoor cafe in that most gorgeous of Spanish cities. The attraction is instantaneous and the two embark on a heated, passionate three-day affair — both recognizing that what exists between the two of them is more that a fling.

As Penny prepares to return to New York, Gabriel promises to follow her as soon as his visa is issued. The two lovers make a date to reunite at a set time in front of the fountains of Lincoln Center in New York. But when the moment arrives, Gabriel never shows. A heartbroken Penny tosses all traces of Gabriel from her life — contact information, mementoes — even the clothing she wore in Barcelona. Life goes on for Penny, a tough lesson learned.

Ten years later, Penny, having walked away from her Wall Street career, now works for Little Friends, an animal rescue shelter. She loves it. It falls to her to line up a caterer for the shelter’s annual fundraising picnic. On her short list is a restaurant called “Gabriel’s”. A little research reveals that the owner of Gabriel’s is none other that the man who stood her up ten years ago. Brave Penny stiffens her spine for her cause and comes face to face with the man who broke her heart. Much to Penny’s shock, Gabriel doesn’t seem to remember her — or does he? How is that possible? (And no — it’s not amnesia — no gorgeous men were physically harmed in the plot of this story.) Hehehe . . . .

Lauren Blakely’s The Only One is a perfect, one-sitting, sizzling and oh-so-romantic read.  Brought to you by the people at 1001 Dark Nights, The Only One is the sort of romance that harkens back to An Affair to Remember with a little bit of Moonstruck tossed in for good measure. (What a delicious mix!)  Both Penny and Gabriel were introduced in earlier Blakely novels (Well Hung and The Sexy One, respectively), but the reader does not have to be familiar with any of Blakely’s stories to read The Only One — this story absolutely stands alone. 1001 Dark Nights Presents: Dirty Wicked by Shayla Black

11-5-dirtywickedFrom New York Times bestselling author, Shayla Black…

After being framed for a crime he didn’t commit, former private eye Nick Navarro has nothing but revenge on his mind—until a woman from his past returns to beg for his help.

Beautiful widow Sasha Porter has been hunted by his enemies. Desperate, she offers him anything to keep her young daughter safe, even agreeing to become his mistress. The last thing either of them want are emotional entanglements but as they entrap the ruthless politician who arranged Nick’s downfall and passion sizzles between them, danger closes in.

Will he choose love over vengeance before it’s too late?

#Kindle  | #AmazonPrint

Shock knocked the air from her lungs. “You’d want someone giving you whatever just because you commanded it?”

“The commands are for your psyche, sweetheart. That way, you can tell yourself that you didn’t have a choice, that of course you didn’t like bedding down with a rapist. But honestly, I’m not going to do a damn thing to you until your body is good and wet and ready.”

She digested his words in a panic and shook her head. “That may never happen.”

His jaw tightened. “If I can’t get you hot, I don’t have any business between your legs. If you can’t let go because you’re afraid I’ll hurt you, I’ll persuade your body otherwise. That’s a promise.”

How was she supposed to respond to that? “Um, I’m sure you’re perfectly capable of…arousing a woman. I meant that I may disappoint you if you’re expecting some vixen. I—I’m not very sexual.”

Nick stilled, then a smile quirked up the side of his mouth. “You will be.”

Those words filled her with part dread—and if she was honest—part anticipation. Always, she’d been the good girl. She’d been a virgin on her wedding night, done her best to be a lady, even in the bedroom. Somehow, she didn’t think Nick would appreciate her circumspect nature or accept her lying back and sorting through her mental to-do list during sex.

Then again, what choice did she have? Faking a few moans would be much easier than actually orgasming with a virtual—and very dangerous—stranger.

Sasha thought back to his touch on her breast, the way he’d rocked his hips against her. She’d felt something, far more than she expected. Maybe it would be enough to see her through.

“I—I’ll do my best not to disappoint you,” she murmured finally.

A laugh played across Nick’s wide mouth. “Don’t worry. I plan to be thoroughly satisfied.”

Nick Navarro has every reason to be angry with the world. Newly released from prison after serving fifteen months for a crime he didn’t commit and still reeling from the murder of his childhood friend, Mike Porter, Nick’s first priority is to exact revenge on those who framed him and killed Mike.

Nick, a private investigator by trade, is missing a few pieces to the puzzle as to why he was framed and Mike was killed. Nick knows that there is one person who may be able to answer some questions for him — Mike’s widow, Sasha. Answers are not the only reason Nick needs to find Sasha — Nick’s been in love with Sasha since the moment he laid eyes upon her years ago. Out of love and respect for his friend, Nick kept his feelings to himself as Sasha married Mike and started a family. But Mike is dead, and Sasha and her child are out there, somewhere, and  in danger.

Sasha Porter has been on the run since her husband was murdered. Broke, scared and with a sick child, Sasha turns to Nick Navarro as her final resort. Someone wants Sasha dead, and if Nick can’t help her, she and her daughter, Harper, are doomed.

When Sasha and her child show up at Nick’s, he welcomes them into his home and offers his protection to them both — but there is a price — there is always a price, isn’t there?

A stand alone novella, Shayla Black’s Dirty Wicked is part of the author’s popular Wicked Lovers Series, as well as being the newest offering from the team at 1001 Dark Nights.

Set in Louisiana, Dirty Wicked is filled with longing, lust, suspense and love. The plot moves at rapid pace, and the reader quickly becomes engrossed. You can feel Nick’s conflicted emotions — his love and lust for Sasha, mixed in with grief for his lost friend, all fueled by a rage to right the wrongs committed against them.

Dirty Wicked is a dark tale, but well worth the time. If you’re a fan of the Wicked Lovers Series, this is a must read. If you’re a new reader to Shayla Black, Dirty Wicked is the perfect introduction to this fine author.

1001 Dark Nights Presents: Tricked by Rebecca Zanetti

He Might Save Her —

Former police psychologist Ronni Alexander had it all before a poison attacked her heart and gave her a death sentence. Now, on her last leg, she has an opportunity to live if she mates a vampire. A real vampire. One night of sex and a good bite, and she’d live forever with no more weaknesses. Well, except for the vampire whose dominance is over the top, and who has no clue how to deal with a modern woman who can take care of herself.

She Might Kill Him —

Jared Reese, who has no intention of ever mating for anything other than convenience, agrees to help out his new sister-in-law by saving her friend’s life with a quick tussle in bed. The plan seems so simple. They’d mate, and he move on with his life and take risks as a modern pirate should. Except after one night with Ronni, one moment of her sighing his name, and he wants more than a mating of convenience. Now all he has to do is convince Ronni she wants the same thing. Good thing he’s up for a good battle.

His muscles tightened as he held himself in check.

She stretched her neck, her body moving against him. “I feel so good.” Holding out her hand, she twisted her arm left and right. “Strong. Well, stronger than I just was.” She rubbed her palm along his whiskers. “That’s not all.”

Yeah. He felt it, too. Attraction. So he turned her to straddle him, feeling her body warm several degrees. “Let me know if I go too fast.”

She leaned in and settled her lips on his. “The first time I saw you, I thought wow. A real wow.”

Her breath brushed his mouth, and he stiffened to remain in control. “Is that a fact?” he asked, waiting for her to make a move. The last thing he wanted to do was frighten her, and he couldn’t tell how much stronger his blood had made her. If at all.

“Yes.” She nibbled at his bottom lip.

Magma boiled through his blood. “When I first saw you, I thought your eyes were the prettiest color I’d ever seen,” he said against her mouth. “Like a fine whiskey that has just caught the light.”

She kissed him, and he could feel her smile. “That’s sweet,” she whispered.

Yeah. That was him. Sweet. Nobody in his entire life had called him that. “I don’t want to rush you,” he said.

She tunneled her hands through his hair and hummed. “But we’re on a bit of a deadline?”

“Yeah.” The slight tug of her fingers hazed red over his vision. “Don’t know how long your extra strength will last.” Probably not very long. And there could be repercussions to her damaged heart from his blood, so they had to mate and now. He stood, easily holding her to him. “Bedroom.”

She wrapped her legs around his waist. “Um. Okay.”

“Will I get fangs?” she asked, her mind still reeling.

He snorted. “No.” By the door, he paused, turning to face her. “I’m the only one who can really bite, baby. Don’t forget it.”

Rebecca Zanetti’s vampires are back, and dayum, they’re drool worthy.

Vampire Jared Reese has been estranged from his family for almost one hundred years and it’s time for him to reconnect.  In his past, Jared had enjoyed the life of a pirate — sailing the seas, collecting booty (cough, cough), pillaging — but modern times have forced him to sheath his sword (cough).

Happily reunited with his mother and two brothers, Chalton and Theo, Jared meets Veronica Alexander via Chalton’s mate, Olivia. Veronica is a psychologist, working with the local police force. Someone wants her dead,  and soon. To that end, this nefarious person has slipped the psychologist a deadly poison that’s slowly damaging her heart. Veronica literally has days left when she meets Jared.

Jared, gifted with supper-sonic vampiric hearing, picks up on Veronica’s stuttering heart. Gentleman vampire pirate that he is, Jared makes her an offer she can’t refuse: become his mate and his blood will not only heal her, but she’ll become immortal. There is, of course, a catch — there always is, isn’t there?

Tricked is newest novella in author Zanetti’s Dark Protector Series and is brought to us by the good people at 1001 Dark Nights. It is a stand alone story, picking up where Tamed ended, but you do not have to have read Tamed to enjoy this tale.

Let me say upfront — I love the canon Rebecca Zanetti has created for these vampires. Not frigid monsters lacking souls, doomed to wander the earth endlessly craving blood, Zanetti’s vampires are warm blooded, beer guzzling, meat-lover pizza eating males who drink only from their mates. They’re born with extra chromosomal pairs, so technically, these vampires are living creatures, not human, but compatible with our species. Powerful, protective, Jared and his fellow vampires are really superheroes with fangs.

With a rapid pace, Tricked is a deliciously hot tale of a vampire and his mate coming together. Author Rebecca Zanetti has created such interesting characters, and succeeds at running them through a maze of situations that keeps the reader mesmerized. No filler here, folks, just a well crafted tale of blood, lust, love and booty.

1001 Dark Nights Presents: Midnight Untamed by Lara Adrian

We are thrilled to bring you the Review & Excerpt Tour for MIDNIGHT UNTAMED by Lara Adrian, a novella in her Midnight Breed Series brought to you by 1001 Dark Nights. Grab your copy of this sexy novella today!

midnight-untamed-coverThe mission was supposed to be simple. Infiltrate an enemy’s stronghold outside Rome and eliminate its leader. For a Breed warrior as lethal as Ettore Selvaggio, AKA “Savage”, stealth assassinations are only one of his many cold-hearted specialties. But the last thing Savage expects to find behind enemy lines—in his target’s bed—is a woman he once adored.

It’s been years since Savage last saw beautiful Arabella Genova. Years he’s strived to banish to his past, along with the fierce desire he once felt toward Bella . . . and the irresistible calling of her blood that stirs in him even now, despite the fact that she belongs to another male.

But when fate throws Savage and Bella together again in a race for their lives, will his long-lost love prove to be the one woman he can’t live without, or the perfect weapon to destroy him?

Arabella knew better than to keep Massioni waiting. He’d sent her away to fetch her scrying bowl while he entertained his boot-licking cronies in the grand salon. They were gloating over a large payout from a shipment of Red Dragon to the States and the United Kingdom—a narcotic that destroyed the minds of their own kind, the Breed, creating blood-addicted monsters from just the smallest dose. They didn’t care that their sudden windfall came at the expense of both Breed and human lives. She had learned a long time ago that Vito Massioni’s greed knew no bounds.

Nor did his violence.

That her gift had helped him amass his growing fortune, and the power that came with it, made Arabella want to retch.

How often had she thought about giving him a false reading from her scrying bowl?

How many times had she dreaded that her visions would one day prove incorrect?

But she hadn’t deceived him, not once.

And, thankfully, her visions had never been wrong.

Either of those failings would come at the cost of innocent lives. Not her own, but the people she cared about most in the world. The only family she had left now.

It was those precious lives she held close in her heart as she walked over to the cabinet across the room and retrieved the hammered gold bowl she would need for her reading downstairs. In reality, her gift would awaken when she peered into any standing pool of liquid, but Massioni insisted she use the ridiculous carnival fortune-teller’s style bowl for dramatic effect whenever she performed a public reading.

Cradling the shallow bowl in her palms, she drew the empty vessel out of the cabinet. Her own face stared back at her in the reflection on the polished gold basin—but that wasn’t all.

Behind her stood the ominous shape of someone else.

A man.

Tall, immense.

An intruder dressed entirely in black tactical gear.

Bella sucked in a startled breath.

Fear streaked through her, but before her shriek could rip up the back of her throat, a broad palm came up to cover her mouth.

Oh, God.

What is not to love about a hot male vampire racing around in a Pagani?

Ettore Selvaggio (Savage) is a Breed — a vampire bred from the Ancient Sire. Needless to say, he’s hot, deadly, and, as most vamps are, brooding in his heart of hearts for his lost love, Arabella (Bella) Genova. It’s been ten years since they were parted, and during that time Savage has taken up with a group called The Order. The Order is the ruling entity of the vamps (they’re the good guys), based in Washington, D. C.

Savage finds himself outside Rome, in the middle of a covert operation to take down the Opus Nostrum (literally translated, Our Work) vampire terrorist organization. Opus Nostrum, headed by Vito Massioni, has been behind the distribution of a deadly street drug called Red Dragon, which, when ingested by vampires, turned them into base creatures — basically reverting the vamps back into bloodthirsty monsters.

About to detonate the explosion that will bring down the villa wherein Massioni and his cohorts are meeting, Savage recognizes a woman among  the terrorists —it’s his Bella. What is she doing there, and can he save her from the Opus Nostrum? Does she even want to be saved? You know this vampire wants answers, and he’s going to get them . . . .

Midnight Untamed by Lara Adrian is brought to us by the good people at 1001 Dark Nights, so it has to be quality material and it does not disappoint. A novella, Midnight Untamed is offering 17.5 in Adrian’s Midnight Breed vampire series, and it is a stand alone. This is the first Midnight Breed story I’ve read but it will not be my last — the plot line grabbed me right off the bat (pun intended) and the characters are memorable. I confess I love a good vampire story, fangs and all, and these vamps are written within true vampire mythology but with some interesting twists.

Savage and Bella’s storyline was predicable but it contained insanely hot vampire sex. (That alone sold me on this book.) As enjoyable as their story was, I found I was drawn even more to the promise of Scythe and Chiara’s story. Kudos to author Adrian for introducing characters into this plot without leaving the reader feel smothered in introductions.

This is a very quick but satisfying read. If you are a fan of vampire erotica, I recommend Lara Adrian’s Midnight Untamed — you will not be disappointed!

About STRUNG UP: A Blacktop Cowboys Novella

From New York Times bestseller Lorelei James…

Rancher Creston Grant retreats from the world after he loses the love of his life….Can his former flame, rodeo cowboy Breck Christianson prove he’s a changed man who can give Cres a second chance at love?

Sutton studied me before he sighed. “I’m protective of him.”

“Why? I get that he’s your younger brother, but he is an adult.”

“Cres has had a rough go of it and I don’t want you takin’ advantage of him.” Sutton’s gaze hardened. “Like you did a few years ago when I sent him to you to deal with my horse.”

“Cres was an adult then too. He made his own choices. And fuck you if you think his bein’ with me back then somehow turned him gay.”

“Whoa. I never said that and I sure as hell didn’t mean to imply it.” He paused. “Let’s start over. This isn’t meant to be accusatory. But when you were talkin’ with Cres last night, did you tell him about bein’ outed and all the crap that happened afterward?”

“Yeah. I always thought you were bein’ humble when you said not everyone in your family rabidly followed rodeo.” I sipped my coffee. “He didn’t know anything about it.”

“Not surprised. People outside the world of rodeo would likely shrug and wonder why it’d been such a big deal.” He folded his arms on his chest. “So part of me wonders why you’d willingly put yourself back into this world, Breck.”

My cheeks heated. “It’s not like I have another skill set. And besides, don’t think I don’t know that you’re the one who suggested me as a possible instructor for the Gradskys’ rodeo school.   Macon made the call, but that happened at your urging, Sutton.”

He grinned. “I figured if they couldn’t have me, they’d want the second best champion bulldogger…which is you.”

“You’re hilarious. And if I haven’t said it, I appreciate your faith in me.” Before things got sappy or awkward, I added, “So why didn’t you take the job? Since your wife is here all the time anyway?”

“After I survived that last run, during my stint in the hospital I swore that I was done throwing myself off the back of a galloping horse onto a steer. It’s a promise I’ve kept.”

Who doesn’t want to soothe the heart of a wounded cowboy?

Lorelei James’ Strung Up tells the tale of cowboy Creston (Cres) Grant and the second chance at love he gets with Breck Christianson.

Breck, dealing with his struggles as a gay man cruelly outed, can’t seem to get his bearings in life. Restless, the once former Rodeo star finds work at the Grade A Rodeo Academy, where he encounters his former flame, Cres.  Cres, immobilized by grief over his late love, Mick, finally begins to come out of mourning when Breck shows up — the Rodeo Academy is owned by members of Cres’ extended family.

In an angsty dance, Cres and Breck two-step around their feelings for one another.   Finally, they take that chance for a life of happiness by making a serious commitment to be together.

Strung Up is a very short novella by Lorelei James, and part of her Blacktop Cowboys Series.

It is also the latest offering from the folks at 1001 Dark Nights, which ensures Strung Up is quality reading. Not being familiar with author James’ series, I was engrossed in this story from the first chapter — i.e., you do not have to be familiar with her series to enjoy this novella.  Both Cres and Breck are sympathetic and well written characters, the story well-written (joyous, heartbreaking and 🔥HOT🔥) and the cowboy sex is as mouthwatering as a grilled, hickory-smoked porterhouse steak. (Read that as delicious.)

If you are a fan of slash, M/M, I recommend Strung Up — it’s a quick, well-written story.

Launch and Review – 1001 Dark Nights Presents: Kayden/Simon (Bayou Heat Novellas) by Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright

KAYDEN/SIMON by Alexandra Ivy & Laura Wright, novellas in their Bayou Heat Series brought to you by 1001 Dark Nights, is here! Be sure you check out the trailer and excerpt below, and grab your copy today!

Kayden is obsessed with revenge after his parents disappeared when he was just a cub. Now the gorgeous Hunter has discovered the man responsible for betraying them – Joshua Ford – and it’s time for payback. Beginning with the kidnapping of Joshua’s daughter, Bianca. But last thing he expects is to be confronted with the horrifying realization that Bianca is his mate. Will he put revenge before his chance for eternal happiness?

Sexy male model, Simon refuses to give up his exciting life in New York City to return to the slow heat of the Wildlands. For a decade, many pantera have tried to capture the rogue Diplomat and bring him home, but all have failed. Now it’s Tryst’s turn. The hard, brilliant, and gorgeous, Hunter is the ultimate tracker. But can the admitted beast-girl of the Wildlands capture her prey without losing her heart in the process?

Xavier, the leader of the Geeks, winced at the noise assaulting his sensitive ears.

The center of the Wildlands was usually bustling with activity. It was the heart of the pack. The area where the Pantera gathered to enjoy meals and watch the cubs play in the dappled sunlight.

Over the past few weeks, however, it’d been crowded with the temporary shelters used by the various factions—Diplomats, Geeks, and Hunters—while the main headquarters was being rebuilt.

Standing at the edge of the clearing, the two males studied the roof being nailed down on the large, colonial-styled structure. The new headquarters would look a lot like the old one, although it would be larger, with the latest technology built in.

Xavier had just received an update from the electrician who was preparing to install the solar panels. He was a tall male with mocha-toned skin and brilliant blue eyes. He had powerful shoulders, a broad chest, and sharp features that were emphasized by thebuzzed cut of his dark hair.

Beside him was Raphael, the head of the Diplomats. He was equally tall, although his frame was lean rather than heavily muscled, and his blond hair was long enough to brush his shoulders. His eyes werejade, until his inner puma was aroused. Then they smoldered a pure gold.

The two alphas had been working closely together to not only repair the damage from the recent attack, but to reassure their people they were doing everything in their power to keep them safe.

Xavier was just filling in Raphael on the status of the electronic surveillance they were installing on the border of the Wildlands when he caught sight of the male

Pantera strolling toward him with a grim determination.

The younger male was a fellow Geek with short dark hair that always looked messy to Xavier, but his mate told him was mussed in a sexy way. Just as she claimed that Kayden’s neatly trimmed goatee was sexy. Whatever. Women were the strangest creatures.

KAYDEN and SIMON, co-authored by Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wrightare novellas 21 and 22 (respectively) in the successful Bayou Heat Series, and are the latest offer from the folks at 1001 Dark Nights.

The Bayou Heat Series is a paranormal shifter romance series set in the Wildlands — somewhere in the bayous of Louisiana. The Pantera, the inhabitants of the Wildlands, are puma shifters.  Once thought to be the simply the stuff of legends and myth, discovery of the existence of the Pantera has caused them to be hunted down to near extinction — their DNA is used to create a serum that reverses ageing.

What happens when you discover your mate is the daughter of the man who killed your parents?

Scientist Joshua Ford has been capturing and conduction horrendous experiments with the Pantera for years. Among his victims were the parents of shifter Kayden Segal.  Driven and determined to avenge their deaths, Kayden sets out to destroy Ford.  When he finally breaches Ford’s home, all he finds is Bianca, Ford’s daughter.  Kidnapping her, Kayden soon discovers that Bianca has Pantera blood — and it calls to him.  How is it possible that Kayden’s mate is the daughter of this madman?

KAYDEN is a quick and exotic read. New to this reader, it took a few chapters of Pantera lore and behavior to grasp the puma shifter universe. Once in it though, it can be said that the Pantera know how to bring on the heat. How can you not love a story about feline shifters when given this sort of material:

“Clearly her kitty wanted to play.”

(Bianca, having recently discovered her puma DNA, reacting to Kayden’s sand-papered tongue.)

Kindle Loc. 886 of 2224

Gorgeous Puma Simon has been denying the Pantera in him for years, and with good reason. Now a hot and successful model, Simon refuses to be trapped in the Wildlands — that place holds nothing but horrible memories for him.  But the Pantera want him back, sending the gorgeous female Hunter known as Tryst to return Simon to the mystical bayous of Louisiana. When Tryst encounters Simon, the heat and attraction cannot be denied, but she has an assignment to complete.  Heated mating occurs between the two and given that neither Simon or Tryst allow their inner cats to emerge, it’s still wild and exotic and delightfully unrestrained.  Simon eventually faces his past and with Tryst as his mate, the Wildlands are again home.

Again, SIMON, like KAYDEN, is a fast and erotic paranormal read. Simon is quite the hot tom cat, and Tryst is an equally sensuous feline. (This reader is very pleased that the mates bite on another as a sign of ownership, as opposed to spraying musk.)

Both KAYDEN and SIMON are hot little reads, and given their premises, they are a fun and enjoyable escape into the paranormal realm of puma shifters.

Alexandra Ivy - headshotAlexandra Ivy is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. From Alexandra: “I’m not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother’s knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library.

Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I’m not admitting how many) I’m still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

Laura Wright - headshotLaura Wright is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. From Laura: “Unlike many of my peers in the writing world, I wasn’t a writer or a reader until I left high school. During my youth I was into theater, song and dance, commercials and boys. I loved romance surely, but I had never read a romance novel until my late teens. With that said, I remember the day I did like it was a moment ago – my aunt gave me the Jude Deveraux novel, Knight in Shining Armor and I couldn’t put it down until the very last word. Then I went straight to the library and got another – then another until I’d read everything she’d ever written. After that, it was McNaught, Howard, Schone, Kleypas, and the Silhouette line, Desire. I instantly loved those emotional, sexy reads, so much so that I began to carve out ideas for my own stories, themes that were unique to me and moved me. In 1997 I enrolled in UCLA extension writing classes, met my mentor and critique partners and since have never stopped writing. I was committed then and I still am now; the need to tell my own romantic stories a full on obsession. My first manuscript was rejected, and though the second one was as well the editor who’d rejected it wanted to see something else from me. I had something (note to authors; always keep working, even after you’ve sent in a proposal) and sent it right away. The day I got the call telling me Desire wanted to buy Cinderella and the Playboy was the best day of my life. That is until I married my husband, and had my two beautiful children. But I must say, writing is much like motherhood – tough, grueling, surprising, delicious and for me, a dream come true.”
