Return to New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Lara Adrian’s “addictively readable” (Chicago Tribune) Midnight Breed vampire romance series with a pulse-pounding novella of paranormal seduction and dangerous thrills, where an icy immortal beauty and a lethal Gen One Hunter must confront a powerful enemy while struggling to deny the irresistible calling of their blood.

“Those men. Is that what they were—drug dealers?”

He stared at her. “You don’t need to know anything more than what I told the cops, Sia. Do us both a favor and leave it at that.”

“They were searching for something, Trygg.”

“So you mentioned.”

“Do the police have any idea what it might be?”

“I didn’t tell them that part.”

Sia gaped. “Why not? Rosa was killed for whatever it was they thought she had. If telling the police about it will help them understand what kind of trouble she was in—”

“The police can’t help.” Trygg blew out an impatient curse. “And whatever those men wanted from the woman doesn’t matter now.”

“It matters to me,” she insisted.

His dark eyes narrowed and he gave a stiff shake of his head. “This conversation is over. I told you, what happened here is the Order’s business. Go back inside and get some rest. Forget about tonight.”

She scoffed. “Forget it?”

When he started to move around her, Sia grabbed his arm. Warm, hard muscle clenched beneath her fingertips, sending a shocking heat through her body. She drew her hand away at once, trying to ignore the distressing awareness she felt for a man who infuriated her more and more the longer she knew him.

“You think I will ever forget what I saw tonight? A young woman was murdered, Trygg. A woman I liked. A woman I was responsible for keeping safe. And now an innocent little baby is without her mother. Maybe that’s something your cold-hearted kind can simply dismiss, but don’t expect me to do the same.”

“Yes, Tamisia. That’s exactly what I expect.” He scowled now, his scarred, sinister face taut with growing irritation and something more difficult to define. “In fact, I’m fucking demanding it. You do not want to be involved in this. So stow your questions and march your fine ass back into that house and stay there.”

“Love was treacherous. It was as cruel a master as the one he’d spent the first part of his life enslaved to . . . He swore he’d never put himself in those shackles again.”

Vampire Trygg knows all about the evil creatures wreak upon one another. Raised in captivity, Trygg was subject to unspeakable abuse at the hands of the madman, Dragos. Upon his freedom, Trygg, a trained assassin, finds himself a member of the Order — a vampire society based in Rome. There he finds purpose in life as a warrior commanded to aid in keeping the newly found peace between the Atlanteans and the Order.  Charged with escorting a banished Atlantean, Tamisia (Sia) from her homeland to Rome, Trygg refuses to recognize the instant attraction between them.

Sia, an outcast from her beloved Atlantea, wants nothing more than to redeem herself to her people and return home. She finds purpose working with a fellow Atlantean, Phedra. Together they run a shelter that provides a safe haven for abused women and children.

Phedra, unlike Sia, chooses to live in Rome; she can return to her colony should she ever decide to change her mind about her purpose in Rome. A crystal on Phedra’s bracelet enables her to be wherever her heart deems. All she need do is to focus upon the stone.

When the shelter comes under attack, Trygg and Sia come face-to-face with one another and their attraction cannot be denied. After a night of passion, Trygg decides to move one — but can he?

Sia continues to work towards returning to her colony. Phedra, seeing her friend in distress, offers Sia the chance to return to Atlantea by handing over the crystal to her.

When Trygg is ambushed, Sia has to make the choice between returning to her homeland of Atlantea or rescuing Trygg. The answer seems to be crystal clear — or does it?

Lara Adrian’s Midnight Unleashed is her latest offering in her hugely successful Midnight Breed series and novella 17 in this season’s 1001 Dark Nights series. It’s a short, entertaining read, filled with fascinating characters from the series, but I stress that you do not have to be familiar with the series to appreciate this story. As a matter of fact, Midnight Unleashed is the perfect story to introduce the series to a new reader. Trygg and Did are clearly crafted, and the Midnight Breed universe is well delineated without being cumbersome. The romance between the two sparks, and the fact that the paranormal mingles with the supernatural makes for some very interesting reading. The plot flies along, and the writing is very tight.

Lara Adrian’s Midnight Unleashed is a must-read for the paranormal romantic — you will not be disappointed.

Sia had never seen anything as magnificent. Every inch of him was dense muscle and firm skin swirling with the strange, alien markings, these living, moving testaments of his need for her. Nothing at all like the sun-kissed, golden skin of her past lovers in the colony, including Elyon, whose fine-hewn physical perfection could have made the angels weep.

No, with his massive build and bulging muscles, Trygg looked more demon than angel. And her hungry eyes couldn’t get their fill of him.

“You’re glorious, Trygg.” She smoothed her fingers over his warm muscles and the stunning glyphs that were uniquely his own. “The most incredible man I’ve ever seen.”

His sensual mouth twisted at her praise, but this time he didn’t reject it. His breath sawed out of him, his fangs like pearly daggers as he gazed hungrily at her beneath him.

“Beautiful Sia,” he said, his hands roaming from her waist to the swell of her hip. Gripping her there, he dragged her against his groin, using his hold to crush their bodies more tightly together. “Have you ever been with a Breed before?”

Although phrased as a question, he meant it also as a warning. One that made her veins throb and the heat gathering in the center of her turn even more molten.

She shook her head. “I’ve never wanted to be. Now I can’t think of anything I’ve ever wanted more. Just you.”

With the press of his hard, thick arousal jutting against her, she moaned, suddenly desperate to get even closer. He leaned over her, tugging hard on her hair as he took her mouth again, his hold tilting her head back on her shoulders, baring her throat to him.

She could feel her pulse pounding there and froze, wondering if he wanted to sink his teeth into her flesh. Some wild, reckless part of her wanted him to. Dared him to. Anything to make this dark, needy pull inside her subside. But no, he only skimmed his lips over her skin, leaving a trail of flames in their wake as he moved lower.

1001 Dark Nights Presents: Review and Excerpt Tour – Rebecca Zanetti’s Tangled

We are so excited to bring you the Review & Excerpt Tour for TANGLED by New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti! TANGLED is a novella in her Dark Protectors-Reese Family Series brought to you by 1001 Dark Nights! Grab your copy of this sexy  novella today!

From New York Times bestselling author, Rebecca Zanetti, comes a new Dark Protectors—Reese Family Novella.

Now that her mask has finally slipped…

Ginny O’Toole has spent a lifetime repaying her family’s debt, and she’s finally at the end of her servitude with one last job. Of course, it couldn’t be easy. After stealing the computer files that will free her once and for all, she finds herself on the run from a pissed off vampire who has never fallen for her helpless act. A deadly predator too sexy for his own good. If he doesn’t knock it off, he’s going to see just how powerful she can really be.

He won’t be satisfied until she’s completely bare.

Theo Reese had been more than irritated at the beautiful yet helpless witch he’d known a century ago, thinking she was just useless fluff who enjoyed messing with men’s heads. The second he discovers she’s a ruthless thief determined to bring down his family, his blood burns and his interest peaks, sending his true nature into hunting mode. When he finds her, and he will, she’ll understand the real meaning of helpless.

“For years, she’d tried to avoid Theo Reese. He was too smart, too strong . . . too male. The born soldier in the family. Her damsel act had never worked on him, and that was damn unfortunate.”

Ginny O’Toole

Kindle Loc. 337 of 1842

Don’t feel too bad for Ginny — she’s a witch who happens to enjoy a little thieving on the side. Unfortunately, Ginny’s light fingers have lifted a thumb drive that contains vital information belonging to Theo Reese — a hottie vampire who happens to be a soldier for The Realm.

Suffice to say, Theo is not happy when he discovers the delectable witch will not return the stolen information. (She has her reasons.) Additionally, there’s some bad blood between Theo and Ginny (pun intended). At one time, it was thought Ginny was mated to Theo’s brother, Jared, but that proved not to be the case.  Theo’s held a bit of a grudge against Ginny since then, thinking Ginny used a bit of magic to “unmate” herself from the supposedly  heartbroken Jared. But with Jared having successfully mated with his true love, Ronni, Theo recognizes his emotions towards Ginny go beyond the anger he once held for her. He wants the witch with a passion. In fact, Theo recognizes that Ginny is his mate.

Ginny has a lot on her mind, and while she wouldn’t mind some slap and tickle with the brooding vampire, the last thing Ginny needs in her complicated life is a mate. Other villainous characters factor into Ginny’s dangerous game — more than just her life is at stake. Mating with Theo would just put him in the cross-hairs of her enemies, and she won’t take that chance. Turns out, Ginny’s feeling more than a little sumthin’ sumthin’ for Theo, too.

Will Theo be able to convince his mate that she can trust him with her life, or will Ginny’s secrets get them all killed? Only one way to find out . . . .

Tangled is the third and final installment in the Reese Family novellas that are part of author Rebecca Zanetti’s fabulous Dark Protectors series. You do not have to have read the prior two stories in the trilogy (Teased and Tricked) to enjoy Tangled, but as the action between the three novellas occur over a period of a few months, I would recommend reading all three, back to back.

Rebecca Zanetti’s vampires are wondrous — they’ll down a beer, eat a burger, and, during scorching moments of passion with their mate, they’ll reveal their true eye color. Theo Reese is the perfect paranormal romance vampire. He’s got it all — the looks, the heart, the skills, the fangs. The chemistry between Theo and Ginny is immediate and palpable. The electricity between these two is reminiscent of static in the air before a thunderstorm — the reader feels the sizzle. Ginny is flirtatious, charming and is the perfect foil to Theo’s rigid temperament.

With non-stop action, and a cast of well-written, delectable paranormal characters, Rebecca Zanetti’s Tangled is a treat not to be missed.

1001 Dark Nights Presents: Tricked by Rebecca Zanetti

He Might Save Her —

Former police psychologist Ronni Alexander had it all before a poison attacked her heart and gave her a death sentence. Now, on her last leg, she has an opportunity to live if she mates a vampire. A real vampire. One night of sex and a good bite, and she’d live forever with no more weaknesses. Well, except for the vampire whose dominance is over the top, and who has no clue how to deal with a modern woman who can take care of herself.

She Might Kill Him —

Jared Reese, who has no intention of ever mating for anything other than convenience, agrees to help out his new sister-in-law by saving her friend’s life with a quick tussle in bed. The plan seems so simple. They’d mate, and he move on with his life and take risks as a modern pirate should. Except after one night with Ronni, one moment of her sighing his name, and he wants more than a mating of convenience. Now all he has to do is convince Ronni she wants the same thing. Good thing he’s up for a good battle.

His muscles tightened as he held himself in check.

She stretched her neck, her body moving against him. “I feel so good.” Holding out her hand, she twisted her arm left and right. “Strong. Well, stronger than I just was.” She rubbed her palm along his whiskers. “That’s not all.”

Yeah. He felt it, too. Attraction. So he turned her to straddle him, feeling her body warm several degrees. “Let me know if I go too fast.”

She leaned in and settled her lips on his. “The first time I saw you, I thought wow. A real wow.”

Her breath brushed his mouth, and he stiffened to remain in control. “Is that a fact?” he asked, waiting for her to make a move. The last thing he wanted to do was frighten her, and he couldn’t tell how much stronger his blood had made her. If at all.

“Yes.” She nibbled at his bottom lip.

Magma boiled through his blood. “When I first saw you, I thought your eyes were the prettiest color I’d ever seen,” he said against her mouth. “Like a fine whiskey that has just caught the light.”

She kissed him, and he could feel her smile. “That’s sweet,” she whispered.

Yeah. That was him. Sweet. Nobody in his entire life had called him that. “I don’t want to rush you,” he said.

She tunneled her hands through his hair and hummed. “But we’re on a bit of a deadline?”

“Yeah.” The slight tug of her fingers hazed red over his vision. “Don’t know how long your extra strength will last.” Probably not very long. And there could be repercussions to her damaged heart from his blood, so they had to mate and now. He stood, easily holding her to him. “Bedroom.”

She wrapped her legs around his waist. “Um. Okay.”

“Will I get fangs?” she asked, her mind still reeling.

He snorted. “No.” By the door, he paused, turning to face her. “I’m the only one who can really bite, baby. Don’t forget it.”

Rebecca Zanetti’s vampires are back, and dayum, they’re drool worthy.

Vampire Jared Reese has been estranged from his family for almost one hundred years and it’s time for him to reconnect.  In his past, Jared had enjoyed the life of a pirate — sailing the seas, collecting booty (cough, cough), pillaging — but modern times have forced him to sheath his sword (cough).

Happily reunited with his mother and two brothers, Chalton and Theo, Jared meets Veronica Alexander via Chalton’s mate, Olivia. Veronica is a psychologist, working with the local police force. Someone wants her dead,  and soon. To that end, this nefarious person has slipped the psychologist a deadly poison that’s slowly damaging her heart. Veronica literally has days left when she meets Jared.

Jared, gifted with supper-sonic vampiric hearing, picks up on Veronica’s stuttering heart. Gentleman vampire pirate that he is, Jared makes her an offer she can’t refuse: become his mate and his blood will not only heal her, but she’ll become immortal. There is, of course, a catch — there always is, isn’t there?

Tricked is newest novella in author Zanetti’s Dark Protector Series and is brought to us by the good people at 1001 Dark Nights. It is a stand alone story, picking up where Tamed ended, but you do not have to have read Tamed to enjoy this tale.

Let me say upfront — I love the canon Rebecca Zanetti has created for these vampires. Not frigid monsters lacking souls, doomed to wander the earth endlessly craving blood, Zanetti’s vampires are warm blooded, beer guzzling, meat-lover pizza eating males who drink only from their mates. They’re born with extra chromosomal pairs, so technically, these vampires are living creatures, not human, but compatible with our species. Powerful, protective, Jared and his fellow vampires are really superheroes with fangs.

With a rapid pace, Tricked is a deliciously hot tale of a vampire and his mate coming together. Author Rebecca Zanetti has created such interesting characters, and succeeds at running them through a maze of situations that keeps the reader mesmerized. No filler here, folks, just a well crafted tale of blood, lust, love and booty.

Night of the scenting ceremony.

It was about damn time her brothers got off their shy asses and claimed their mates. Not that Ellie didn’t like the wine and men bashing get-togethers with her girlfriends, but a girl could only take so much stupidity from men. She did love her brothers, but they needed a bit of a push to get them where they needed to be—mated.

Standing on the fringe of the field for the Scenting Ritual, she looked toward the forested hills beyond, while everyone else watched Marco and Kelly center stage. If she and Emma’s plan worked as she hoped, all her friends would finally be on their way to being her brothers’ mates.

Even Emma had a surprise coming. Emma thought she was helping Ellie with Jordan, Nicole, and Karla mating. But Ellie sent Mason out to where the girls were taping the video for a book Jordan was writing. She wasn’t waiting any longer or taking any chances of anything happening.

The situation with the Rahound pack was getting serious. It was best for the women to be mated and for the men to watch over them. The last thing she wanted was for their human bodies to be caught up in a fight with a much stronger shifter. That was one fight her wonderful friends would not win no matter how good they were at defending themselves.

Speaking of the Rahounds, Ellie searched the crowd for her destined mate, Caleb. He was the true alpha of the pack, but his uncle Rocco took control when Caleb’s father suddenly died while Caleb was away. Now that Caleb was of age and ready to lead his pack, Rocco refused to step down. She loved Caleb. Had since the moment she laid eyes on him when she’d been a little girl.

But Caleb was keeping her at arm’s length, and it started to piss her off. He could do so much with her help. Together they could get his pack back and finally move forward with living as they wanted, as a couple.

In the years under the uncle’s rule, the pack had disintegrated into a terrorized community of shifters afraid to speak out or do anything about the abuse they were taking. Now, females from the Rahound pack had been disappearing. It was rumored Rocco was giving women to those loyal to him as gifts for their support. That sick fuck. Every time she thought about how miserable he was making Caleb’s life, she wanted to claw his heart out.

They had no proof yet, but Ellie knew in her gut Rocco was committing heinous acts against his own people. Rocco was a crazy son of a bitch willing to do whatever it took to keep power. Caleb had been planning to challenge his uncle for alpha rights, but the timing wasn’t right yet, or so he kept saying.

Ellie didn’t know the reason for the holdup. But now that a girl was missing from the Wolfe clan, tension was rising, and she didn’t know how long her family would stay out of Rahound’s business.

“Well, hello, my beautiful lady.” A shiver went down Ellie’s back. Rocco’s sour breath at her ear made her stomach roll. She stepped away and turned to face him.

Steeling her spine, she tried to control the venom in her voice. “Hello, Rocco. What do you want?”

A sleazy sneer spread across his face and his eyes raked down her body. She refused to give him the satisfaction of any fear. This self-control was more than just mental on a wolf’s part. Wolves could smell emotional reactions based on the chemicals the brain secreted. Adrenaline of any kind had to be suppressed. Even if all her animal wanted was to slash her claws across his neck and watch him bleed out.

“I’m just stopping by to say hello and see how you are.” His eyes drifted to her chest. “My darling, you are far too beautiful to waste on my nephew. How about you come to the alpha house for dinner. I’ll make sure my enforcers are there to watch,” his tongue slid between his lips, “over you.”

He shouldn’t even be there. This was a private ritual, but clearly someone had informed him and he’d taken it upon himself to come. The area was available to all who wanted to wander, but Rocco knew neither he nor his men were guests. Ellie put on a fake smile. “I’d see you in hell before I willingly went anywhere with you.”

Rocco chuckled as if she’d said something cute. “You’re so like your mother. She was a spitfire, too. Definitely a nice piece of ass in her time.”

Ellie gasped then hauled back and slapped him. Fury tensed her muscles. “Don’t you speak of my mother or anyone in my family.” Her voice lowered to a growl and she fought hard to keep the wolf in check. “Just because yours is fucked up doesn’t invite you into ours. We have something you never will, Rocco.” He stretched his jaw, a red splotch forming on his cheek.

“And what is that, my nephew’s whore?”

She narrowed her eyes. Then she smiled and spoke slowly. “Respect and love from our pack.”

His eyes darkened. Ellie smelled his hate as the breeze swept it away.

“Ellie?” her mother called out. A second later, her parents and Caleb joined her. Caleb wrapped his arms around her from behind, staring at his uncle over her head. “Rocco,” he said with steel in his voice. “I didn’t think we’d see you here.” He hugged Ellie a little tighter and kissed the top of her head. “Is everything okay, Ellie?”

She relaxed in his hold. “Everything is fine. Your uncle and I were discussing our packs’ loyalties to their alphas. Or lack of.” He gave her a little squeeze. She wasn’t sure if it was his way of cheering her on or warning her off. Probably warning her off, knowing him. He didn’t want her getting involved in anything to do with his uncle or the pack war. Too fucking bad. She was his mate and she wasn’t sitting by, letting him deal with it alone. Not when he wasn’t alone, he had her.

Ellie’s dad and mom stopped beside them. Her dad shook hands with the piece of shit. “Rocco.”

He looked her dad in the eye and gave a short nod. “Tristan.” Then he grabbed up her mother’s hand and brought it to his lips. The nerve of that sick bastard to touch her mother. “Barbara. It’s always nice to see you.” His snake eyes focused on her. She took her hand back quickly, a frown marring her face.

Ellie was shocked her dad wasn’t all over Rocco, beating him into the ground. On second thought, Dad was sure in Mom’s love for only him. As she glanced at her father’s face, he seemed a bit smug. What was that all about?

Her father wrapped an arm around her mom’s shoulders and cleared his throat. “So, Rocco. Have you noticed an increasing amount of rogue wolves in the area lately?”

Rocco pursed his lips and drew down his brows; a fake contemplation expression if ever she saw one. Whatever came out of his mouth would be a lie. They all knew it.

“Now that you mention it, one of my enforcers may have mentioned seeing a strange face, but nothing other than that. Are these rogues perhaps only in your territory?” His disinterested tone went against the spark of revulsion in his eyes.

Her dad’s brow lifted. “Could be. We should all be watchful. We don’t want them straying into your area either. With you being the interim alpha until Caleb takes over, we wouldn’t want you to have to deal with an issue as touchy as this.”

Caleb’s body stiffened around Ellie. She had to stop her jaw from dropping open. She couldn’t believe her father egged Rocco like this. Rocco shoved his hands into his pockets. The stench of hate escaped into the air. Being this close together, it could’ve come from any of them.

Within the crowd, someone called out Rocco’s name. He excused himself and headed away. Ellie readied to burst. As much as she loved how strong and tough her family was, she didn’t want anyone inciting the asshole further. “Dad, oh my god. You were intentionally goading him.”

Her mother chuffed. “He’s lucky that’s all your father did. Arrogant bastard.”

Her dad wrapped her mom close and kissed her forehead. “Don’t waste mind space on him.” He looked around. “Where are your brothers? They need to be front and center to represent the pack.”

Both Ellie and her mom reacted too quickly, each starting to talk then stopped when realizing how they just blew the cover to Operation Get the Brothers Mated. They giggled at each other. Her dad lowered his head against his mate’s. “Don’t tell me. I don’t want to know, do I?”

Ellie reached for her mom’s hand. “It’s a girl thing, Dad. But we promise, you’ll be an even happier father soon.”

Caleb and her father groaned.

And when Amy finally understands the man she’s come to trust is none other than the enemy, will she walk away from him or fight for the love she’s come to depend on?

“I’ve been burned before,” he replied quietly. “Several times.”

She softened slightly. She did understand corporate spying. Her father had practically been the CIA. It was why she hadn’t gone after Glendale the way she should. She knew the sins her dad had committed against them. She didn’t understand them entirely or why her father had hated Glendale in particular, but she knew the Adlers had been burned more than once by her father’s deep belief in corporate espionage. “I’m sorry to hear that. I really wasn’t trying to hurt you. I don’t even know what you do. I don’t have a reason to take something from you.”

He stared down at her and for a moment she thought he was going to argue. Then he dragged her close and his mouth was on hers. He kissed her like a starving man, his tongue plunging deep.

He needed. She could feel it. She wasn’t sure what it was he was asking her for, but she felt his bone-deep need. It poured off him, and everything that was soft and warm inside her responded. That affectionate part of herself bent to his will. She’d shoved it down for so very long. Her love and affection weren’t needed in her father’s world. It had been something to hide away and toss out because it had been useless.

Flynn needed it and she was determined to give it to him.

“Don’t go,” he said against her lips. “Stay with me.”

It was all she’d wanted to do in the first place. “Yes.”

He picked her up, hauling her high against his chest, but when she thought he would move back to the bedroom, he strode toward his desk. He sat down with her in his lap and flipped open his laptop. The screen was suddenly on, but she was thinking far more about the thick erection pressed against her backside.

“Type. Be fast. I don’t want to wait,” he growled against her ear.

He’d pulled up his e-mail and moved the cursor to where she would put in a name. His hands moved under her shirt, reaching up to cup her breasts as he licked and nipped at her ear.

How was she supposed to type when her whole body was busy responding to him? “Flynn, I’m going to make a mess of this.”

“Type or I’ll explain to your boss that you’re far too busy pleasing your Master to come in to work today.”

Devoted teaser 3 (1)

Amy Slaten is trying to right her father’s business wrongs and keep Slaten Industries afloat. Her unscrupulous father was just about to tank the company when Amy stepped in and took over the reins. Determined to keep the company viable, she’s sacrificed a lot to save Slaten Industries. But the corporate grind has taken its toll.  All she wants is for someone to take care of her, to dominate her, to give her some relief. When the opportunity to enter a Sub-In-Training class at Sanctum arises, Amy eagerly signs up.

Flynn Adler, genius software designer and owner of Glendale Incorporated, always keeps his eyes on the competition.  One rival in particular, Slaten Industries, has been at the back of Flynn’s mind lately. The constant demands of his work are taking a heavy toll on him, and Flynn finds himself signing up for a Dom-in-Training class at Sanctum. With the right Sub, Flynn can let go of the suffocating stress in his life and find sweet relief.

Eager to start training, Flynn is stunned to find that Kai has paired him with Amy Slaten, his business nemesis. Amy has no clue who Flynn is — he’s not using his full name. But then again, neither is Amy using Slaten. Divorced, she opts to use her married name which arouses all sort of suspicions in Flynn.  Luckily for both them, suspicions are not the only thing aroused between the two. The attraction is instantaneous. While Flynn and Amy happily (and heavily) fall into the D/s lifestyle, both are still keeping secrets from one another.  When the inevitable happens, can their relationship survive?

Devoted is Number 10.5 in Lexi Blake’s terrific Masters and Mercenaries Series, and is an offering of the 1001 Dark Nights Series as well.

As with all of author Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries works, Devoted is a well written story focusing on a specific D/s coupling at Sanctum. The characters of Flynn and Amy are believable, the plot line intriguing and the sex scenes are just never enough. As one has come to expect from Lexi Blake, the ancillary characters are just as interesting as the protagonists and the story is smoothly paced.

A quick read, it’s always such a satisfying experience to get to hang with the group at McKay Taggart. Why not treat yourself to Devoted and escape from whatever’s stressing you? You won’t be disappointed.

Rebecca Zanetti

TEASED - coverThe Hunter

For almost a century, the Realm’s most deadly assassin, Chalton Reese, has left war and death in the past, turning instead to strategy, reason, and technology. His fingers, still stained with blood, now protect with a keyboard instead of a weapon. Until the vampire king sends him on one more mission; to hunt down a human female with the knowledge to destroy the Realm. A woman with eyes like emeralds, a brain to match his own, and a passion that might destroy them both—if the enemy on their heels doesn’t do so first.

The Hunted

Olivia Roberts has foregone relationships with wimpy metro-sexuals in
favor of pursuing a good story, bound and determined to uncover the truth, any truth. When her instincts start humming about missing proprietary information, she has no idea her search for a story will lead her to a ripped, sexy, and dangerous male beyond any human man. Setting aside the unbelievable fact that he’s a vampire and she’s his prey, she discovers that trusting him is the only chance they have to survive the danger stalking them both.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

He exhaled and stretched out long, very long, legs. “Sure you do. Your first two articles in the series detailed missing researchers from Oregon along with hints about their missing research, all leading up to an article coming next week with a big reveal. I’m assuming the big reveal is the actual research into chromosomal pairs, into extra ones belonging to an imaginary species, and you’re being duped.”

“Oh yeah?” She put her hands on her hips and pivoted in the seat to face him. “If I’m being duped, then why are people trying to either kidnap or shoot me?” She was on to the find of the century, and she needed to get back on track to meet her source for the evidence. “Let me out of this car, and I won’t press charges.”

“Do I look like I’m worried about charges?”

No. Not at all. He looked like some badass vigilante in tailored clothing. All muscle, intelligence, and…maleness. So damn maleportrait of the elegant man on dark he could define the word. “You should be worried,” she countered, her stomach dropping. The guy couldn’t care less. She’d seen his face. She knew his name. “You’re going to kill me,” she whispered, her heart clenching. “Or try to,” she added quickly.

He tossed his empty water bottle into a trash receptacle near the door. “I’ve saved your life twice. If I wanted you dead, you’d be dead.”

A chill crawled down her back. “But you need the information you mentioned.” Then would he kill her? Or try to?

He leaned toward her, bringing heat. “Listen, Livy. I will not kill you. I promise.”

Livy? Only her grandpop called her that, and hearing the nickname from Chalton’s handsome lips gave her odd tingles she really had to banish. She pressed her lips together. “Have you killed anybody before?

She knew it. Of course he had. The guy was definitely a soldier from the way he moved. “In times of war?”

Hope unfurled inside her. “In other times?”

“We’re usually at war.” He shrugged

Journalist Olivia Roberts is about to release an article that will put the humans of planet Earth in a state of panic —at the very least.  A secret source has been feeding her information about a heretofore unknown species of creatures that evidence thirty pairs of chromosomes, as opposed to the twenty-two pairs identified in humans. What Olivia doesn’t know can harm her — those creatures in possession of the eight extra pairs of chromosomes are actually vampires and shifters!

Chalton Reese is the vampire charged with tracing down Olivia Roberts, finding out her source for the material and preventing the publication of that article. When he finally comes face to face with the dishy Olivia, the attraction is electric. Unfortunately, he’s not the only faction of the vampire/shifter world that wants Olivia and her source.

In her latest release, Teased, author Rebecca Zanetti takes the reader on a breathtakingly fast-paced race of a story.  Filled with fascinating characters first introduced in her Dark Protector Series and a companion piece to her 1001 Dark Nights Tricked novella, Zanetti has created a vampire canon in which the vampires are alive — they have hearts, they bleed — no undead, cold hands creeping on warm human flesh here, folks. While they are still immortal, they can be injured in any number of ways. And although they can’t glamour you, their sheer gorgeousness is more than enough to pull you into their world.

The romance between Chalton and Olivia is hot, but predictable. (I challenge any other female to deny Chalton anything for the length of time Olivia does — he’s her mate, for Pete’s sake!) The secondary characters are all well written — all interesting — some absolutely delightful (Chalton’s mother is a hoot) and the plot is terrific. Original and ingenious, it’s complete with a twist that will leave you wanting more of these characters and their stories. A standalone novella,  Teased is destined to be a winner.

Release Day Blitz and Review: Creature of Habit: Book Two by Angel Lawson

AmIMG_2437elia should have run when she had the chance. Away from Asheville.
Away from her job. But most importantly, away from her deadly boss, Grant Palmer.

Instead she finds the draw of Grant irresistible even after he reveals his darkest secrets. Amelia remains in Asheville even though a killer is stalking her, knowing the one person that can protect her is equally dangerous. It’s a decision that will change her life—perhaps even destroy it.

You Are Not A God

No, I considered, feeling the heat rise.  I am not a God, but my wraith will be just as vengeful.

Prologue, Creature of Habit: Book Two

And with those damning thoughts, vampire Grant Palmer sets out to destroy those creatures who have been on a serial killing spree in the city he’s vowed to protect.  Alone — his love, Amelia Chase, having rejected him after witnessing his merciless shredding of another creature to pieces — Grant attempts to refocus his existence on the capture and destruction of the sociopathic vampire, Caleb. Caleb, for reasons unclear to Grant, is playing a gruesome and deadly game of chess with Grant, using those closest to the vigilante vampire as pawns.

Amelia, in shock, terrified by the horror she’s witnessed, attempts to convince the rational side of her self that a life without IMG_2733Grant is possible. But, the heart wants what the heart wants, and Amelia is soon back in Grant’s life, if only for the purposes of her own self-preservation.  Ensconced in a guest room in Grant’s home, Amelia and Grant can’t help their attraction to one another, and as Caleb continues wreaking mayhem on those close to the couple, Grant and Amelia inevitably come to the realization that there is no life without the other.

Creature of Habit: Book Two is the second installment in Angel Lawson’s Creature of Habit Trilogy.  Initially derived from her very popular Twilight fan fiction of the same name, Creature of Habit: Book Two continues on the same plot line regarding the romance between Grant and Amelia. But all bets are off as to the rest of the story. Author Lawson has added layer upon layer of new content — fascinating glimpses into the vampire/shifter mythology, as well as detailed and intriguing character histories — fresh material that leaves any comparison to a certain young adult fantasy novel in a plume of purple smoke and ash.

Angel Lawson is at her best here — she has the ability to take her readers from the tender emotions of blissful love and, with a masterful stroke, render them next stunned in horror. It’s a rollercoaster ride, from one chapter to the next, and what an intense, gripping ride it is!

Creature of Habit: Book Two is a standalone novel.  It has a prologue and epilogue that sufficiently sets the scene for the story in such a manner that one does not have to read the first installment. However, this reader recommends that both books be read, and in sequence — not out of necessity, but rather for pure pleasure. Creature of Habit: Book Two contains scenes of graphic bloodshed and violence, as well as explicit sexual scenes (Holy Hallelujah, Batman!).  It is written for a mature audience and is not bedtime fare for the kiddies. So  — go ahead — pour yourself a goblet of O(h, my) Positive and enjoy!

Creature of Habit: Book One by Angel Lawson

51KRtjmPntL._SX311_BO1,204,203,200_The summer after college, Amelia Chase lands a coveted position as the personal assistant for the brilliant, yet reclusive, Grant Palmer. Grant’s aloof nature and obsessive-compulsive behavior leads Amelia to rethink her position until Grant steps in to rescue her during a bizarre kidnapping attempt. She soon realizes Grant is a man of many secrets, all hidden behind an elaborate façade of self-discipline and control.

Grant Palmer spends his days in an expensive suit and tie, funding charitable works for his family’s Foundation. His nights are reserved for patrolling the small city of Asheville and the bordering mountainside in an effort to protect residents from rogue vampires. Why? He has his own collection of kills to atone for from his own days as a rebellious, blood thirsty killer.

Amelia and Grant’s professional relationship turns personal, distracting Grant from his duties. As the number of victims rise, it becomes apparent that a predator in the hills of North Carolina has a vendetta against Grant. Aware of Grant’s increasing interest, possessing Amelia is one way for this killer to enact his twisted revenge.

Reclusive philanthropist Grant Palmer is a puzzle that his new assistant, Amelia Chase is determined  to solve.  Unbeknownst to her, he’s a vigilante vampire, obsessed with (among other things) protecting the unsuspecting humans of Asheville from predators — be they vampire or not. As their working relationship develops, so grows the intense, mysterious attraction between Grant and Amelia.  Can this mortal woman be the key to unlocking Grant Palmer’s heart? And is this enigmatic, handsome man truly the superhero of Amelia’s dreams, or is he really a monster, waiting to pounce?

Creature of Habit: Book One of Angel Lawson’s Creature of Habit Trilogy is an adaptation of her popular Creature of Habit Twilight fan fiction. And while there are a few pointed similarities that harken back to the Twilight aspect of her fan fiction story (they are vampires, after all), they don’t distract from the mesmerizing plot and subtle character development of her story.  Lawson’s Grant Palmer is beset with an admirable responsibility to protect the innocent.  Constantly on guard, he resists his feelings for Amelia, attempting to rationalize her presence in his life as a test from the divine:

“She was simply a test. One I could successfully pass — like other challenges over the course of my lifetime.” p.47

Amelia, determined to discover Grant’s secrets, sets out on a course of misguided actions that lead to nothing short of laugh out loud comedic relief. Eventually (and inevitably), Grant and Amelia draw closer to one another, and Amelia recognizes that their fates are entwined:

“Separate, we were two people muddling through life. Together we were electric.” p.328

IMG_2373Lawson’s writing effortlessly takes the unsuspecting reader from humorous situations to horrific scenarios — it’s a well crafted story.  And as the story progresses, the UST levels start to chart dangerously between the vampire and his lady love.   However, this reader would be remiss in not pointing out that, although Grant Palmer becomes obsessed with and addicted to Amelia’s lemony scent, there are no actual lemons, per se, in Book One.

Book One does end with a minor cliffie, mitigated somewhat by an epilogue — conceivably it stands alone, but Creature of Habit is so compelling, reading Book Two is a must. And Book Three is, well, this reader can only hope it’s the icing on a big, luscious lemony cake.
